Why no self-shadowing and sub surface scattering on character?
SF5 did a good job on character shaders. But why did Street Fighter 6 intentionally remove self-shadowing and subsurface scattering from the characters during combat? This makes the areas on the characters where there should be shadows appear very bright, and the skin texture doesn't look good. I hope these shaders can be added back, perhaps as a graphics option."

Self shadowing only appears out of combat. Character's arm can't cast shadows on their own body. The clothes cannot cast shadows on the skin. And all characters' armpits shine like a lamp.

They're already there, check your settings, or maybe your ini file, because everyone else is seeing these effects.
Probably visual gameplay wise, you wouldn't want to fight a character obscured by the shadow darkness competitively. It's why people still choose stages that has little visuals like training stage even in SF5.

literally not related to what the OP asked.
OP said also on why they INTENTIONALLY remove self shadows and subsurface scattering during combat which i replied to it and yeah i got out of topic about stages.

It was related to what asked OP. It was an argument on why in Fighting games devs would tweak such things.

The problem is that the OP is incorrect, these features are in the game during combat.

No there is no self shadowing in SF6's combat. Check this video, it's very clear.

Not all lamps cast shadows, the shadow casting lamp spawns during Super Arts, Intros, and Victory poses.

That's why I was confused because you said "out of combat" because Super Arts occur during combat.

Also, the SSS is still present during all of the gameplay, you can compare what it looks like by disabling the SSS manually, then enabling it to look at how the skin changes. Alternatively, you can Challenge Manon in world tour mode, and you'll see her skin looks very grey compared to how it normally looks when playing her on her stage in the rest of the game.

Anyway. The characters are glowing. It looks like a hidden non-shadow light always bound on the character's position after fighting begins.

Try looking at the characters on Guile's stage, you can clearly see the arms casting shadows on the bodies of the characters.
