I’m curious to see how they will change Ed more than anything. There is no way they keep him simple with modern controls being a thing, so it’s a chance to give a redesign to his kit. Maybe this time around he will actually feel like a psycho power boxer. In 5 the boxing aspect felt like an after thought. If they do make him feel more like a boxer than I’m definitely interested but don’t really care if they keep him the same.
I’m indifferent to AKI and Akuma. Will be interesting how they balance Mr. “every tool in the tool shed” without gutting his health though.
It wouldn't

Some of the characters you listed are at the top of list but others are much further down.
The SF6 seasons are 4 characters. You listed 9 different characters.
Should they also not be allowed to do new characters as DLC?
The only SF that's had a DLC roster is SF5. You're acting like there have been multiple SF games with DLC rosters like it's a Neatherealm game when SF6 is the second time they've done it.
We don't know what Season 2 is going to be but they're always going to have a ringer like Akuma somewhere in the season to bump sales back up when the game has reached a lull.
That said, yeah no people not mentioning characters like Sakura really have no idea what would wind up being most popular at the end of the day. I will say though, this poll you link is probably pretty skewed in favor of what people wanted at the time I imagine, and also heavily dependent how many casual fans vs hardcore fans actually voted. Wouldn't doubt Makoto to be in top 10, and even several of the others that are there, but Blanka is genuinely surprising, as is Q being so high despite how fondly people talk of him. also Skullomania being 16th is pretty wild.
Yes, SF4 was more about selling multiple versions of the same game over the course of years the way something like SF2 had been but over time more and more people just wanted to have the base game updated via online or DLC so you started seeing SF4 move more in that direction by the end of its life cycle while SF5 was like that from the outset.
I agree it's skewed not only because of the date but also because it's 150k which isn't that big when you think about SF6 selling a million in it's first week but there in lies another problem with fan polls and surveys is that you're only gauging a fraction of the audience.
I imagine some of the character positions would shift around a bit if it was done again today but a lot of it would probably stay pretty similar like the shotos are always going to be high up on these lists no matter what.
Yeah I know that voting poll, I linked it myself multiple times in this forum to prove that Rashid is not a highly requested character. I also think that it is just a freeze frame of which character were popular balance wise in that time period.
There is a difference between:
1) people liking to play a certain character in a certain SF because the character is op
2) people like a character independently from the current meta, design, style and move wise
Unless they happen to release a fighter that I totally vibe with, I'll probably wait until a bundle is released to buy the DLC characters.
