The problem with no downranking
Couple days ago I reached gold rank somehow, but clearly this is not my level, my win percentage is terrible now and the players are much better than me and I am basically stuck to fight all these players who are clearly much better than me.

I'm still learning the fundamentals of the game, footsies, neutral, combos, hit confirms and still terrible at it. I barely know the matchups yet.

The honeymoon period of ''Oh, it's so cool to rank up and look at my rank'' is over. I actually want to enjoy the game now which is very hard to do when my win percentage is so bad.

Because of this reason I actually wouldn't mind if downranking was a thing at lower ranks, because at the moment I don't have the same enthusiasm to play and learn the game as much as I did.

Am I missing something? Is there a reason why downranking exists at higher ranks, but doesn't exist at lower ranks?

I won six matches in a row and thought it was no big deal. I'll get to a higher rank, lose and go back to the newbies since I have almost no experience playing SF, but it turns out I don't! I'm not going back to the newbies! Why not? I'm really glad I lost four times in a row and got iron 1.
I'm also not happy with a situation where players will take long breaks from the game. At the time of their return they will not meet their rank, but they will still be denied a downgrade? What the hell!
Promoting from rookie to iron is an entirely different beast. It's literally impossible to lose LP in rookie. Eventual promotion to iron is almost inevitable, no matter how badly you do, as long as you win at all. Your win rate can be 1% and you'll eventually make it to iron.

When I said newcomers, I meant the level of players, not the rank in the game.

Street fighter 5 handled the ranking system way better I think. And it looked better.

Sorry, you mentioned iron 1 in your post and I was thinking you meant being stuck there unable to rank down to rookie.

You should be fine as you can downgrade all the way to gold-1.
New players who can't play with equals and win 50% is the real problem here.

In the same Tekken I met people who had more than 10 thousand matches for one character, but their rank was still Iron 3. (in SF terms)
They play as best they can, don't learn anything and just enjoy the process, but they still play with people who practically launched the game for the first time. They win a series of matches and then immediately lose. How much fun would people like that get out of the game if they accidentally get promoted to the Bronze rank and can't go back?

And I've seen a lot of those players. They are the real casuals. And such a system as in SF will scare them away and do nothing for other players.

Suppose I play for a long time on the rank of Gold 3-4. And here is my lucky day, a series of victories! Gold 5! Wow! That's Platinum! Here's my first match, I meet a guy who's been playing Platinum as long as I've been playing Gold 3-4 and he destroys me! A guy shows up who plays really well and here he gets Platinum and yeah, he destroys me! And the next one and the next one! I know I just got lucky with my winning streak, I don't deserve that rank, so why can't I go back? There's no reason why I can't go back to the Gold rank. And obviously, I have to go back to Gold 4, not Gold 5, so that I don't accidentally get ranked Platinum again, since the Platinum matches have shown me that I'm just not ready yet.

The ranking system will normalize though. You act like someone squeaking into gold from silver-5 is this rare thing, but there are lots of high silver players that are going to creep into gold and hit that backstop, and they all get to match with each other. On top of the fact that the matchmaking pool between silver-5 and gold-1 isn't that different in the first place. Matching with Silver-5 to Gold-2 isn't that huge a shift from matching with Silver-4 to Gold-1.

that would be a unique scenario.

most ppl taking a break and then coming back, wouldn't just jump into Ranked. They'd practice a bit first, hit the Battle Hub, etc. Their skills would come back ez.

it's like riding a bike, you never really forget how to.

it doesn't need to normalize at all because it's normal now.
sf5 handled it way better. literally the only good thing about sf5.

the backslide from gold to silver and back, was the most annoying thing about that game. SF6 has the better system.

The problem with no downranking is that it keeps people from downranking at the top 20% fo the playerbase (gold) and lower. Meaning if your honda and have been using onlyheadbuts and are no in plat, when they nerf that move your gonna belong in silver but will never be able to get back there. Same applies to if you catch a lucky win streak and get pushed up a rank your stuck there regarldless of if you belong there. If the skill floors where at lower levels then people wouldnt be stuck with the top 20% of the playersbase. As someone that was gold/plat in sf5 this doesnt really effect me but i can totally see the problem. I keep getting matched up with gold 1 stars that clearly dont belong there.

That's going to be me one day you are stepping on. Because I rolled over a bunch of silvers in the placement matches, it decided I was Platinum. Put me in such a bad mood. I then lost 20 games or something after that. I just know how to anti-air. That's my only gimmick.

Downranking exists once you get to Plat and Diamond.

I chose the 2nd highest option when I started ranked and got placed in Plat 4. Got bumped down to Plat 3 where I floated for a while. Got to Plat 4 again and now I'm slowly climbing that.

I think the system works fine once you get to Plat and Diamond. If you're getting roflstomped in low Gold then perhaps there should be deranking.

I say hop into custom lobbies and just face whoever you come across. Playing against better players will make you better by nature because they will punish you for making mistakes and you'll have to find different ways to open them up. You'll also probably find people around your level too.

My overall win rate is like 65% with Gief but in Ranked I'm probably barely getting over 50%, it's just you typically earn more for a win than you lose for a loss so it's still possible to climb, albeit very slowly.

Lots of people are getting stomped in gold. Again, gold and higher is the top 20% of the playerbase. Yes the system works above gold and that was my point.

Im already plat so i dont need help im just pointing out the problem. Please read the post properly before responding.
