The problem with no downranking

Couple days ago I reached gold rank somehow, but clearly this is not my level, my win percentage is terrible now and the players are much better than me and I am basically stuck to fight all these players who are clearly much better than me.

I'm still learning the fundamentals of the game, footsies, neutral, combos, hit confirms and still terrible at it. I barely know the matchups yet.

The honeymoon period of ''Oh, it's so cool to rank up and look at my rank'' is over. I actually want to enjoy the game now which is very hard to do when my win percentage is so bad.

Because of this reason I actually wouldn't mind if downranking was a thing at lower ranks, because at the moment I don't have the same enthusiasm to play and learn the game as much as I did.

Am I missing something? Is there a reason why downranking exists at higher ranks, but doesn't exist at lower ranks?

It seems that only Diamonds and Platinum can. Iron->gold and masters can't downrank afaik.

iron, bronze, silver are all vastly different. stop being elitist. yes players do struggle in bronze and silver. not everyone is as good as you.

I'm gold 4 and I still use random DI and most of my wins are winning the mindgame more than anything else. I'm often against people who teach me lol

I haven't played a single ranked match in 2 weeks.......it's impossible to think that my country is one of thsoe where SF is really popular and there is no one in casual or ranked matches ?

Since the game came out, I had 1 ranked match. I guess I was lucky, really lucky :s

they should have sticked to points like in sf4. that way you always can climb up or down and are not foced into a category which you might not belong to.

plenty of people already reached the highest rank and cant get demoted and the game is 3 weeks old. doesnt seem like a big incentive to play ranked for the next years when you literally can reach your goal in 1-2 weeks.

It is your level. You reached it. Now you need to get better in order to continue climbing. The fact that the bottom of the lower leagues have "backstops" to prevent you from dropping out of them doesn't really change this. The players you match with in Gold-1 aren't going to be that different in skill from the ones you matched with in Silver-5. And for what it's worth there are other fresh golds right there with you that you can potentially match against.

OP, what's your CFN name? I assume it's not "supernova" or anything containing it. I can see one in Gold-1 but they aren't sitting at 9000LP with no wins and look to be on a pretty steady climb to Gold-2.

This is one of the few good things that the floor system in strive has, and would be a good compromise in SF6 ranked. Give one "breathing" derank instead of locking you immediately to your current rank. If you reach silver, no deranking below bronze; if you reach gold, no deranking below silver, etc.

That's why I asked what their CFN name was. The only Gold-1 "Supernova" seems to be doing just fine.

You on modern? I think modern controls really skewed ranking in the beginning of the game. It propelled people way ahead with no way to downrank.

A week after launch 90% (or so it felt) of iron was classic and I think the modern folks got bumped further up and it's now starting to correct, only they can't be corrected down properly.

I still suck and am still bronze but I noticed a big change a week in. All of us learning classic and/or a new controller were in Iron still trying to pull of combo executions.

I like the above post who suggested a one level rank floor to allow for some movement back and forth.

This is interesting. First few days I played Ryu in ranked. Just reusing basic stuff I learned in the Beta/Demo. I think I won every single placement match because they put me straight into Platinum.

Now I'm OK with Ryu. Nothing special by any means, but good enough. Then I place with Blanka. Lost a few games in placement and it put me in silver. It took me like a week and a half of playing after work to get Blanka to Platinum. I won almost all of my matches but it took so much longer. And my Ryu doesn't really belong there.

The ranking system is kinda strange but Idk if it's bad. It's just odd.

If you get stuck play with a new character. Repeat it 18 times then ditch ranked and go to casual/vs CPU if you get stuck again.
