If you lose to Modern Zangief, I don't know what to say.
The only real boon is the walking 720, which it sounds like isn't the issue.
Your just getting bodied by Zangief period. The control scheme isn't the issue.
By choosing modern Zangief, the only SPD you have access to via button is the fierce version. This has the shortest range out of all his SPDs.
Assuming you don't bother to learn a 360, you are kneecapping yourself by reducing the effective range in which you can grab someone, making back walking more effective. This could also very easily cost a player the match just as well as fumbling an input
Sincerely,
A classic zangief main
