Make sure you are in fighting grounds, select a ranked or casual match, and back out of the initial menu to the Fighting Grounds menu. The bar on the bottom of the screen will tell you if the game is matchmaking or if it has paused (because you are in a menu).
For info I use expanded, and 4-5 connection, and confirm opponent. Although in a 4-5 match i did have one where i did get alot of frame/ping drop which was weird to see.
This might contain some useful information
So look let me explain why this game is doomed overall for anyone reading this and is new.
You should return it. The game ONLY has players at platinum and higher left playing it.
There is basically only 9k players on world wide on a weekend.
They dont have anti cheat- instead how it works is when a player is caught cheating with bots, scripts, or macros, the system kicks them down a bracket each time. This ensures that the players at the top have to deal with it less and less. It also allows Capcom to not have to officially address the issue of cheating in game, as they wont have high profile players complaining about the cheating at platinum and above.
This was OK at the start when there was 40 thousand players on. But as the game was out longer, players who were not hard core fighter game players got fed up with being stuck in one bracket, with little to no support from Capcom in daily tournaments and engaging the community better.
SF has ALWAYS been a game that caters to the caste. Meaning, only the top 10 percent. SF has NEVER cared about players who were below platinum at all. Youre trash to them.
Which is why the system doesnt remove accounts, it only places the cheaters at the bottom.
So, if you are below Plat, you are going to be facing more and more cheaters. Sometimes multiple games in a row.
I have personal experience with this finally, this past week, where I played on my friends Masters account and won a couple. But then had him play on my Gold account, and he lost, as a Masters player, all the way down to silver. And finally admitted, it wasnt entirely a skill issue.
This is a real problem. It wont go away. Capcom doesnt care about you as the new player.
So you are going to get a very unpopulated game, that has nobody to pair with for rnaked or fights below platinum. And no way to climb the ladder unless you want to play the macro/script/bot users in the lower brackets who will most definitely stomp you into the ground most matches.
My advice is to request a refund. And then if you REALLY want to play the game, come back on the black Friday sale, and get it for dirt cheap. As the game probably only has about 1 year left in its support anyway. I think 1 more yearly pass, and then capcom will ditch it when the player base hits 5k current players.
The game suffers from fighter game attrition naturally anyway, and the developers are greedy and really dont care about scripting, macro controllers, or bots all that much unless it happens to players in the top 5 percent.
Sucks, but its a fact.
Also I'll save you the fact that there is no evidence to support the idea that cheaters get kicked down to Rookie, instead their MR gets reset as far as we know, which stands for Master Rank, so they retain their Master rank. So no, there are no cheaters down in Silver.
be plenty of players in that ranged.
While it’s been couple months since I played below platinum, I didn’t encounter any issues in that time (I opted for 3-5 connection bar, limited range).
