Controller vs Arcade Stick
Hey guys, question for y’all - is one gadget more accurate and faster than the other? Or is the input response rate fairly same?
My hubby asked if i want a traditional fight stick, and that got me wondering if there is a point of getting it if I play Modern and if there is even a difference between the two in terms of accuracy and response rate.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

I recently got my first fightstick (an 8BitDo arcade stick - only ~£60) after a decade of being an absolutely awful casual with fighting games.
It took literally no time at all to get used to, and my specials are finally consistent. The ability to whallop a special move fast on a stick and get the tactile click of the switches is nothing like a controller. I have several, and they all feel ambiguous.
Maybe I'm an outlier, but "just use whatever you're already used to" definitely didn't apply to me!
You're good. It took me around 4 years to feel comfortable on a stick after a lifetime on pad, and even then I'm still better on pad. I exclusively play Stick for Fighting and Arcade games nowadays, it's so much fun.

So I started with pad. PS4, then saturn pad, then ps5. Then I randomly decided to try an arcade stick. I hated the square gate. But OCTO gate + kowal activator mod (more reactive stick) on a sanwa JLF and its amazing. This took me about 2 weeks to get used to. Infinitely better at stick than pad now.

Idk how tf anyone can stand playing square gate but octo gate has zero downsides and is really fun. You can feel every part of the gate, so you never screw up DP, fireball etc.

Also the buttons being huge is just way better.

I never even used an arcade stick before I was like 38 years old and its a MASSIVE improvement for me over any kind of controller. I'm currently Diamond 3. I can beat master players etc. But like... I haven't felt like doing the amount of ranked required to actually get there, yet.

I also tried leverless I don't really like it. But I think it's probably the best overall option.

Hey folks, returning this topic back since I'm curious to ask a few questions. I am playing on DS4 right now, but I am struggling with some of the moves that require several directional inputs. Y'all recommend leverless fight pads, so I did a bit of Amazon digging.

I looked it up and found something called simply Hit Box for $239.90. Like a brand. It's all button fight pad, so I assume that's what you call leverless?
Is this a good option to save up for? Or are there specific brands that you would recommend other than Razer (bc I don't like Razer products in general)? I don't really want to buy smth for $400+ bc I'm a noob and a casual, and I play just for fun.

I saw Leverless Controller Arcade Stick CosmoxGaming M16 Plus for $159 I think, but Idk how good/bad it is. I know absolutely nothing about this stuff & need some direction from y'all, more knowledgeable ppl :LaughingOwlcat:

Thanks in advance!
Gods no. Get a Haute from Aliexpress instead. I own the official Hitbox you're referring to, and I've stopped using it. Hitbox coasted along on good timing and a recognizable name for too long.

The razer is a pretty premium one a ton of top players use and love the kitsune.

But it's also not like much better than a Chinese box for €50 while being massively more expensive.

If you have funds to waste you probably won't regret it but it you are interested in being more reasonable and sane the hautes are really good. In either scenario I wouldn't touch an a hitbox brand they are kinda hot great.

i dont shop on AliExpress.
When I put in Haute on Amazon, I get Sehawei Arcade Stick 16Keys All-Button Gamerfinger with Turbo Functions & Custom RGB,Arcade Controller Street Fight for PC/Ps3/Ps4/Switch/Steam Game Keyboard-Supports Hot Swap & SOCD for roughly $95. Is that the same thing?

It appears to be. If I could do it again I'd get the one with the extra pinkie button on the left. It's similar to what Daigo uses.
Alright, I will take a look at these Haute pads, and see which to get. There is a whole bunch of them - T-series, M-Series, S-Series...
It's gonna be wild experience getting used to it, that's why I don't want to spend too much money on it - there is always a what if - what if it doesn't work out :)

It would be significantly cheaper on aliexpress. Of course it would also take a lot longer to arrive. If it helps, I play on a T16. The one I wish I'd purchased is the R16,
I'm considering to go with Haute42 S16, but idk how (un)comfortable it would be given its rather small size. But i also don't wanna get a big pad and have an issue where i can't reach the buttons (I have small hands, but long piano fingers LOL). I also have limited space on the desk, so S16 seems like a good option. Anyone has experience with that particular fight pad?

Leverless basically exist because keyboards weren't/aren't typically usable on consoles. (That's an oversimplification, I know). Seriously though if you're on PC the difference between keyboard and leverless is marginal. I have a snackbox micro and actually prefer the keyboard over it.

That said I made the conversion to stick and just really enjoy that method more. It may be slightly worse but part of the fun in fighters is using the stick for me and mastering it.
Over time, history gets rewritten.

Hitboxes took off because they enabled faster inputs and shortcuts you couldn't get with a stick. Thus begat SOCD cleaners, but tournament legal fightsticks still have a minimal execution advantage even witrh cleaning, but they also allow cheating when socd is turned off.

I am actually thinking of getting one myself, looking at the Cosmox M16 Plus. Currently using my old Razer Panthera to play all my fighters on.

I did see it, and I watched someone do a comparison review between M16 and S16. They said that M16 has nice weight to it, which I thought would be neat, BUT the reviewer mentioned - if you like to game with the pad on your lap, it will slide and tilt bc of its weight and size. Then I got a bit more concerned over sheer space and possibility of it being uncomfortable if buttons are spaced too much for me to be able to reach them with ease

Is is an input cleaner that evolved in response to some of the game breaking advantages hitbox initially had. Google can give a better explanation than I can.

No, do not get a fight stick. Controller is the way to go for you. But do be sure to pick up Terry and Mai when they are released. That is all you will need to reach the Road To Final Victory!

Problem with controller I am having - directional inputs when more than two directions are involved, quarter circle or some such it's called. Some of the characters I can get pretty close on getting the move to come out almost every time (e.g. Cammy, Rashid, Chun-Li), but others I seem to struggle with (e.g. JP, AKI, M Bison, Manon). I feel like it happens because DS4 analog sticks have smooth rotation and it's hard to "read" where the directional gates are, if that makes any sense. That's why I tend to jump a lot while trying to get some of the moves to come out and it looks like button mashing when I have a specific move in midn I'd like to execute xD
That's the only reason I wanna try a different hardware when playing this game. Otherwise I wouldn't have an issue with a controller.
