In terms of what? Matchmaking and online is definitely 1000 times better in second beta. Gameplay not sure, since I played Vox and Tizoc and both seem unchanged.
Inclusion of that Ronaldo is super super stupid, though.
There were multiple complaints about long wait time, and not finding matches at all! I was 1 of them.
I tried it on second day it was absolutely perfect, on par with SF6 netcode and matchmaking. So to be fair this isn’t an issue with the game.
What I hate the most is Rev Blows (especially how burn out isn’t nearly as punishing), the game feels slow with unresponsive controls (I hard read and get my Wild Punish and then my follow-up HP don’t come out), and the characters feel so boring and bland, with little depth. Like Terry/Mai infinitely more fun here in SF6.
Also seems zoning is annoying AF there, and that Kain seems really strong.
But it seems most might get better with time, for example getting used to that crappy controls, and dodge attack into special to counter Rev Blows.
The second beta was excellent, the match making was great and the actual gameplay is really fun and feels more honest. No throw loops or drive rush BS that plagues SF6 and turns it into a casino 50/50 simulator is a bonus too
The smart controls are not like modern controls, they are severely compromised in comparison and not designed for competitive play, which is a good thing because SF6’s modern controls have no business being played by people calling themselves professional players, it’s an embarrassment to the game and street fighter’s legacy as a whole
The game still has guessing on wake-up, guessing is in every fighting game. No Drive Rush but let's not pretend it don't have lame mechanics, like Rev Blows that certain characters have it better than others, like RUNNING as OKI. How is that any better? 🙄
Only in here it seems not all supers have i-frames on wake-up, and some characters only have light dp with i-frames?? Not sure like I said only played Vox and Tizoc.
I know how Stupid Controls work. I even made a topic so long ago:
https://steamcommunity.com/app/1364780/discussions/0/676200042391980911/
While it indeed will probably render it useless in high-level, it doesn't have damage penalty. Do you know what that means? It means it took what everyone hated about Modern (instant button crap) and made it even stronger. This, coupled with what I mentioned before how zoning is stronger in this game will make Stupid Controls absolutely unbearable and anti-fun to play against.
I agree with you, Modern is an embarrassment beyond casual offline play. I also agree the matchmaking and netcode was on same level as SF6 (actually I might have found games even faster, but that's because no rank matchmaking).
They have a whole marketing campaign Ronaldo is in the game lmao, saudi arabia ambassdor has the game as a sponsor for his huge boxing card in may, and even made a fatal fury belt lmao
the game is just lackluster, people played it and found out
Can you imagine if, for example, Street Fighter had that marketing?!?! Like if SF6 had Ronaldo, and that Saudi money?!?!?! It would end up top 10 played games in Steam easily.
it is bizarre how much better mai and terry feel to play in sf6 compared to their own game indeed
Because it is a mediocre product. All that Saudi money and they couldn't even put a proper menu?? It's a legit contender for worst UI ever, that is something all my friends who tried it unanimously agreed on. Everything about the game really feels SO cheap.
Also damn. Seems some feelings were hurt by me legitimately talking trash about baby mode. I am sorry you feel that way, but imagine being part of the majority who are forced to babysit that crap.
Im going to be honest with you, this game is not worth 82 CAD + DLC being more money. The only reason why i bought SF6 is because the sale makes it go down to like 39.99. The UI in cotw is so bad they didnt even make adjustments to it, you can redraw some of the screens yourself in microsoft paint/limited experience in adobe photoshop.
Adding your friend to a custom lobby is almost near impossible without looking it up or having someone tell you, you will still legit spend an hour doing so. Character balance is probly going to struggle here too.
I think its fair to say now after hearing opinions from pros online, it looks like SF6 has weird balancing issues because of the two diff control schemes. They have to make characters balanced for both control sets which overall hurts a character struggling.
They legit needed ronaldo to bring hype back to the game.....a 2nd beta that still had issues, and the UI (also navigating the ui) is probably the worst i've seen in any game.
Looking at the pc release strictly, i would say KOF 14 did not sell well.
Tekken 7 had 19k peak players (on release) and maintained healthy retention for like 7 years.
KOF 14 - only ever had 1.2k players.... and only saw spikes in patches it died pretty fast. (no crossplay either).
KOF 15 - alot better, probably due to crossplay addition even if the PC numbers are low, theres alot more playing on console. It atleast had like 1.8-2.5 k players for about a year.
Its hard to say if COTW will be fine or not, once the player count is low enough, but if its low enough, i wont be touching it on sale. I learned my lesson with dbz sparking zero, i ain't getting fooled again.
