Is there really a demand for elena?
for real why are they bringing this c-tier trashcan back? who besides 0.001% wanted her of all the better characters in this series. sf6 roster is already rock bottom, can it go up with some good additions

c-tier as in "c-list" . forgot that this was a fighting game board

Me.

I asked for it. Repeatedly. And when I saw her as part of the new season of characters she was genuinely the character I was the most excited for.

Also, judging by the positive response to that announcement, and amount of fanart celebrating her return (especially all the ones about her meeting back up with her BFF Akuma), I can confidently say I'm far from the only one.

Hope that answers your question.

No. The reason she was included, according to Matsumoto and Nakayama themselves, was basically DEI. Here's the link to the video where they admit it: youtube.com/watch?v=QFYUg_xm34Y&t=62s

The actual video: "We wanted to add someone who had a distinctive fighting style from the rest of the characters, and we also wanted to add a character from Africa, because this is a series all about fighting characters from all over the world and so far we have ZERO characters from a massive continent like Africa."

Bigots: It's DEI. :jimbo:

It's amazing how you can always count on people who constantly shout "DEI" to still manage to not know what that term even means. But then again, we all know they're just using as a smokescreen for their bigotry, so there's no point in expecting them to actually mean anything they say. :conwayshrug:
What I also found interesting is Nakayama's quote from this famitsu article about Elena's inclusion in particuar: https://www.famitsu.com/article/202406/7728

Q: "Elena, who first appeared in Street Fighter III, will also be added. What prompted Elena to join the team?"

Nakayama's Answer: "Firstly, there were two main reasons for her inclusion: there hadn't yet been a character who uses capoeira in this game, and we wanted a character who was from Africa.

We did consider a new character from Africa, but it seemed like there wouldn't be an opportunity for Elena to appear, so we chose Elena this time."

So, apparently, Elena is so unpopular and irrelevant that Nakayama considered making an entirely new character that covers the DEI purposes and uses Capoeira, but ultimately decided against it, probably because it would be too much work for very little reward on their part.

Yes, I feel like she might be different than all the sf6 character slop we've been getting this season(Terry was alright), at least she'll 100% be more interesting than Mai but i'm praying to god she doesn't have a low forward drive rush.

I'm excited for Elena and plan to user her, and am not surprised that the alt-right armchair commentators on this board are injecting their "grievances."

She was created what - like 2 decades ago and has been in 2 of the 5 mainline titles. But hey - DEI or something.

🤣🤣

Wow, that’s some hard projecting.

No, he said that they were considering another African character (no mention that the new character would use the same fighting style) and for whatever reason that would make it unlikely that Elena would make the cut. It seems to me they thought it would be a shame if Elena specifically wouldn’t end up being in the game. If they wanted to replace her they would, that much is clear from the quoted response.

A bunch of people who wont actually use her will tell you youre wrong.
This. Elena has historically been a very unpopular character, I expect it will be the same for SF6.

I hope they don't add her healing super but I have a feeling they will.

Now that's some passive aggression lol

Having a continent represented at all is a huge reason. We need someone from Oceania next, however. Hopefully, thee would e more than one Africa character. I guess Menat would fit, but having a new one would have been nice.

No one has ever cared about Elena.
Anyone who wants to convince me Elena is remotely popular and cared for is just a white-knighting liar. As stupid as it is but seems people would “white-knight” anything to show their dumb fake “moral superiority”. Classic desperate attention seeking virtue signalers.

She is not even bottom 20 wanted characters I bet money.

How much money?
Apparently she is 42th, in a VERY bloated list containing every lame character and variations like "Shadow Lady". That is very very pathetic, so it does seem she was added just for "representation". Why not make a new African character?

I would love to see her position in among main series characters, minus lame "evil" and whatever versions.

Edit: Even E. Honda and some "Sodom" are higher than her, it's that pathetically low. And that is in 2017: https://game.capcom.com/cfn/sfv/vote?lang=en

As much as hate pointing my finger at DEI, I’m doing it. I mean right now we only have Kim as the only black representative for SF6
Hm...
