I asked for it. Repeatedly. And when I saw her as part of the new season of characters she was genuinely the character I was the most excited for.
Also, judging by the positive response to that announcement, and amount of fanart celebrating her return (especially all the ones about her meeting back up with her BFF Akuma), I can confidently say I'm far from the only one.
Hope that answers your question.
The actual video: "We wanted to add someone who had a distinctive fighting style from the rest of the characters, and we also wanted to add a character from Africa, because this is a series all about fighting characters from all over the world and so far we have ZERO characters from a massive continent like Africa."
Bigots: It's DEI.
It's amazing how you can always count on people who constantly shout "DEI" to still manage to not know what that term even means. But then again, we all know they're just using as a smokescreen for their bigotry, so there's no point in expecting them to actually mean anything they say.
Q: "Elena, who first appeared in Street Fighter III, will also be added. What prompted Elena to join the team?"
Nakayama's Answer: "Firstly, there were two main reasons for her inclusion: there hadn't yet been a character who uses capoeira in this game, and we wanted a character who was from Africa.
We did consider a new character from Africa, but it seemed like there wouldn't be an opportunity for Elena to appear, so we chose Elena this time."
So, apparently, Elena is so unpopular and irrelevant that Nakayama considered making an entirely new character that covers the DEI purposes and uses Capoeira, but ultimately decided against it, probably because it would be too much work for very little reward on their part.
She was created what - like 2 decades ago and has been in 2 of the 5 mainline titles. But hey - DEI or something.
🤣🤣
No, he said that they were considering another African character (no mention that the new character would use the same fighting style) and for whatever reason that would make it unlikely that Elena would make the cut. It seems to me they thought it would be a shame if Elena specifically wouldn’t end up being in the game. If they wanted to replace her they would, that much is clear from the quoted response.
Now that's some passive aggression lol
She is not even bottom 20 wanted characters I bet money.
How much money?
I would love to see her position in among main series characters, minus lame "evil" and whatever versions.
Edit: Even E. Honda and some "Sodom" are higher than her, it's that pathetically low. And that is in 2017: https://game.capcom.com/cfn/sfv/vote?lang=en
Gotta love racist scrubs. Same with Kimberly.
