Genuinely a horrible system
Am I the only one that thinks V-rivals kinda suck?

Combining AI input reading with player data already sounds kinds sketchy on paper, but in actual practice we have the caveat of all of the player data being filled up by people using Modern controls and doing nothing but spamming Drive Impacts.

This does not change depending on what Rank I set the V-rival to, they all play the exact same way and it's honestly just annoying.

I found it to be pretty good, definitely more natural feeling than default AI - if anything I found it less reactive (aka. Input reading feeling) than let’s say AI lvl8. That said I didn’t play it after getting all the rewards near its launch.

But there was over abundance of modern players - and I do wonder if it is because kind of player the system appeals to. Being a high plat player, the system offered little to me as I found even Master level V-Rival fairly easy to defeat. As creating V-Rival copy of yourself requires you to play the system quite a lot, I do wonder if AI is trained on players who don’t do so well in online matches (aka the ones relying too much on DI and other punishable tricks).

I'm a much lower rank player, maybe Bronze according to Vrival but I can never find any ranked matches at my level to actually play, so that would make sense. I know I'm already at a disadvantage being new to SF and playing on Classic, but Modern just doesn't seem appealing to me lol

What region are you in and what are your matchmaking setting? There aren't a lot of regions that have difficulty with player numbers at the moment. SF6 is the most widely played fighting game on the planet right now (except for maybe Super Smash Bros).

Also, V Rival is probably the best fighting game AI I've ever seen. Unlike other AIs, it doesn't play like a terminator or a brain dead idiot. It will whiff attacks, it will punish your mistakes, it will anti-air, and generally shut down your cheap BS, while still presenting some very human-like openings to exploit. It definitely has its problems. There are some infinite loops you can get it stuck in pretty easily with some characters, and the Sims are WAY too easy (Master-ranked Sims are realistically more like Platinum 2 or 3... tops). But overall, it is a fun concept.

I think the best use of the system is to fight "yourself". It can definitely be eye-opening seeing some of the mistakes you make regularly that you can suddenly spot in a heart-beat when the AI is doing it.
1. Because it was meant to be affected by EVERY player's data and there's limitation that how it is programmed. It's just another CPU player. What did you expect?

2. In certain level most Classic players do the instant anti-air DP, too. You cannot blame Modern controls for nothing.

3. If you don't like it, why don't you play actual player instead?

I'm in US and matchmaking Worldwide. I really think I'm just too low a rank to be matching with anybody. I've never been able to complete 10 placement matches.

Really? And what level is this? Do I have to grind to Legend rank? To 1%? Because so far I get a lot of jump-ins against Masters of all levels using legit honest controls, in one of the hardest regions too? "M" can do it the first second the play the game.

Do they also, in certain level, do instant supers/specials without motion input?

They also drop inputs all the time, even in major tourneys like EVO and EWC.

Well, I admit I made some misinterpretation.

What I want to say is that V-Rival fails to anti-air occasionally while most basic jump-in eats DP, just like Master ranked or pro players do, too.

Oh I see, that makes more sense yeah.

My take on V-Rival is it is a great addition, but people have to have some realistic expectations it will of course do CPU things because it is still a... CPU. It's impossible to code it to behave like a real human. I didn't play much with it but my experience was solid.

Iron and bronze only have about 5% each of the total population. Some have reported matches start coming quicker at silver which has 10%. Most have reported worldwide not working well in finding matches more frequently. Try expanded 3-5. GLHF.

I understand. I was in precisely the same boat as you (first time fighting game player) around a year ago. Made it even more brutal by deciding to learn arcade stick. When I was starting I had no issues finding low rank matches, but it’s been almost a year ago - it is not impossible that there is less influx of new players and as the ranking system aggressively pushes players toward platinum the game might be less populated at this point.

Couple things to try:
- if you haven’t already try WorldTour - while not to everyone’s liking I found it very helpful to learn the basics and get comfortable with the controls without getting pummelled online.

- on v-Rivals - try facing harder AI than your current level. Even if you loose, the opposition they face might be more healthy, as bronze level v-Rival AI is unlikely to make any smart decisions, therefore might not be most helpful in improving.

- fiddle with matchmaking settings - you are in a populated region so if there are players you should be able to find them. Switch off worldwide and use limited - that should result on shortest matchmaking with best connection. I personally use that and have connection quality set to 3-5 bars. It’s counterintuitive but from what I heard expanding your search range make things worse not better.

-there was someone not so long who complaint about really long ranked matchmaking in bronze but things got better as he got promoted to higher ranks - that could suggest that those rank are underpopulated preventing players from moving on. If so Capcom should do something about it, but for now I would suggest getting better through BattleHub and casual modes, so you can rank up quickly once you decided to brute force though lengthy matchmaking in ranked (low ranks make it very easy to climb up so it should take more than few successful games to get out of bronze).

-if you are new you should be able to joined battle hubs for beginners - if they are not populated it won’t be helpful, but for me it was a first taste of online play - a great easy going experience until I graduated off it and was pushed toward big boys battle hub where I git mercilessly pummelled to death. That frankly is still the case, but at least I put up more of a fight these days.

-also mandatory question: how is your internet? If the connection is poor other player setting might filter you out making it hard to play online.

Oh I'm not that new to fighting games, just actually horrible at them lol. I've mostly played anime fighters for like 2 almost 3 years? And this past year I've only recently tried to actually pick up SF6 for real and learn Terry
wth are you guys talking about 😂
