Mai, the red terror!
Is it just me or is every Ranked match vs a new Mai user? Also, they keep kicking my Ryu's ass =(

She's a new character; people will playtest her.
When the honeymoon phase is over, Kenation and Akooma will be back in the game.
Mai is broken. unfortunately we won't see her nerf until May when Elena gets released. Also, I get you for every 10 ranked matches 8 of them are Mai, it was worse the day she got released, it was 10 out of 10 matches AND Master and Legend level players had her on "New Challenger" so it was a 1 way match from the start.

Do you think this is an attempt by Capcom to make a good impression with SNK? C vs SNK 3 3? In any case, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks she's kinda OP.

It's literally day 3, I feel it's a little early to be calling her OP.

But yeah no, it's also day 3, even the least popular DLC characters were still flooding ranks on day 3 of their release. Give it two weeks and things will start normalising again as more and more players will plateau with her and return to their mains.
Am I weird for preferring to match against Mai than eg Rashid?
Not had too many mirror matches in master. The bulk of them probably still in the lower ranks
Mai fighter 6 easy game
I will admit I haven't been gaming in many years. Last time I played SF was EX3 on PS2...I've played SF6 for a month. Getting better but Drive and frame data is new to me as an adult playing. Maybe I just suck vs Mai lol. I dont get beat often with anyone as Ryu other than Ed or Rashid but I can beat them. Mai? Can't ever beat her =( I went from Bronze 5 star to 3.

Guess it's time to lab against her in particular, or go the beginner battle hub and look for a Mai willing to do a FT10 so you can learn a lot about how to play against her in a short period of time. She's not release Bison levels of busted.
Soon I will join the Red terror waves, but for now I will continue playing other characters to unlock the new color.

When Terry released I just couldn't resist to join the masses right away because he felt too much fun to me, but Mai doesn't give me that fun factor feedback as much so I will wait for the dust to settle before start playing her in Ranked.

I think the fans system is what is broken, for two reasons, it is specifically designed to facilitate "fireball-driverush" and the fan rebound is messed up. If you block you end up open to a mixup and also you must preemptively jump the fans because they have not enough recovery. for real the game is getting worse and worse every season.
If the game did not have Drive Parry it would be broken, but it does. If you are in burnout it is very punishable but you kinda did it to yourself.
In burnout a super is still an option anyways. Which means OD with i-frames moves are also an option.

Personally I love "fireball-driverush" too, it's the best against ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ who just walk backwards to "zone" you. If you love neutrals and such you should love it. (And again, it exists because otherwise Drive Parry would make fireballs almost useless).

Mai is a terrible zoner, her fans are useless without charge, so you're never going to win a fireball war against anyone, you need a flame buff to even compete

you can just parry the charged or od fan, but you can also throw in between the rebound, so if Mai tries to grab you between the rebound, you can throw tech, or od attack / super etc.

spend some time in practice mode dealing with it, it helps. it's gimmicky tech, but it's not broken

Exactly, and this applies to most of SF6 tbh. Nothing is really broken. You have the tools to deal with literally everything but you gotta study.

OD fan is also decent but costy.

It's kind of sad that the only way to play this game is by using broken characters with fireball to deal with all these stupid mechanics. Literally the game is forcing me to learn Luke, Akuma or Ken.

nah fans are fine

normal fan you can just jab them

mp and hp charged fans you can just backdash and avoid the bounce

all charged fans are bad up close unless you just sit and block
