Jamie when there is Yun/Yang
Lily when there is T Hawk
Kimberly when there is ibuki/Guy
Manon when there is Able
Marisa when there is Sodom, Rufus, R.Mika, Birdie, Viper
JP when there is Gen
Aki when there is FANG
ahem, Manon best character.
None of these characters play like their alleged counterparts you've mentioned though? Where's Guy's spray can setups or Gen's projectile play? Especially the latter is no different from going "Why do we have Elena when there is Cammy?" in '97. "Why do we have Ibuki when there's Rolento?", and so on. Have you failed to notice Capcom has always retired huge swaths of the roster to make room for new characters as far back as SFII itself?
Obviously no one under 50 has played SF1 and I'd hope at 50 you have better things going on in your life than to be angry online about video games so you don't see anyone mounring the loss of uh... Lee or Geki, but basically characters have been getting benched for about as long as there has been Street Fighter.
And considering six of the bottom ten are from SFII (or Super), seems plenty of folks like the new characters just fine. Also uh, Jamie's never been outside of the top 10 pickrate despite how comparatively weak he is so he's most likely the most popular of the newcomers.
Manon > Abel
