downplaying? everyone has thought he was top tier from the beginning because he obviously is. Dude is literally good at everything.

JP, after so much time after the release, has become a fairly simple opponent, it's quite easy to fight against him. It's enough for you to use all the game mechanics that you have.
JP has simple inputs, but starting with Diamond 3 and the Master, it becomes difficult to play for JP, and this is good, because the character requires the player to have fundomantic knowledge about the game.
Actually, at high ranks, it takes a good skill to play for JP and play and compete. This is a risk in many ways, but that's why the players' matches look nice.
Things that seemed broken on the release now don't seem like that. JP has a very tasty frame date, for which it is very easy to punish him.
Even now, "balance problems" at high ranks do not affect the game in any way; but Capcom will still release patches - and this is very good. It will be very interesting for me to see how the patches will change the game in the future.

I still don't think JP is that good. Kakeru is an amazing player, who really plays exceptionally with JP. His success is more a testament to his abilities and work, than to the advantages coming from picking that character (which I think a lot of Blamka and Juri players have!).

I'm a pretty poor player, with Ken. I don't think I'd be AS GOOD with JP, if I invested the same amount of effort and time into him.

JP is good but saying he is potentially OP because of Kakeru is like saying Zangief is top tier because of Snake Eyez.

Kakeru had 32 perfect freaking parries against Angry Bird. That fight earned him $400 000.

if you are plat 3 with ken the best character in the game and you lose to platinum jp players when ken is one of his worst matchups I think this is a strong case of you not knowing the matchup

Yeah I'm not good but still JP is harder than Guile because approching him is harder than Guile. It was about just about a comparison of those two.

JP is really out-of-place in a SF game -- he's like a poor man's SNK boss, and makes fighting him a real chore (against those who know how to spam him) or bore (for newbies).

Albeit, not the eyesore that, say, Kimberly is; JP really does not belong in a SF game... No more than F. A. N. G. did, for that matter.

No, it's the opposite. Snake Eyez himself said he didn't go to Evo or Gamers8 because he can't win with how bad the matchups are for Zangief at top level especially

I’m also aware how bad Gief is. I’ve heard one pro saying that gief is the only one in the game that’s impossible to win a big tournament with. There are low tier characters but gief has his own place.

I'm having great time vs JP as Juri. It's fun squeezing through his zoning and then pressuring him at close distance where he struggles much more.

JP is actually one of the more fun opponents for me.
