Only the EX version counters grabs, but yeah the EX version is broken. Try to meaty him with an EX fireball if you have one and you know how to bloody time it, but don't get too predictable with your meaty. If he has no meter and mashes counter just bloody throw or command grab his ass.
The more I play the more this rings true. You get in on JP and he's often toast. DJ is a nightmare for me in most every matchup.
It's called game knowledge buddy boy. I don't need to be a professional soccer player to know how the game of soccer is played, but executing it is a different story.
They also practice most if not all match ups a dozen of times, so they know what they're capable of, what's important to have, etc.
But keep coping.
Anyway, if you REALLY want to talk about broken, then Manon is actually one of the most broken characters, if not the most.
Tons of pros have taken multiple characters or even every character to master rank.
JP can be miserable to play against, but if he's so busted, play him and get to master yourself. (I suspect you'll find it difficult.) There's not one character or mechanic in this game that you don't also have access to.
