Is Platinum a "big deal"?
I got platinum weigh Ken a couple of nights ago, after getting like a 12 Winning Streak.
But I noticed that I made another post, where I "claimed" I had a Platinum 2 Ryu, and some people questioned it. I was confused, because to me, Platinum is not something you lie about, as if you're bragging from your "high rank".
Right?

Or is reaching a Platinum harder than I think it is?

No its not a big deal, ranks don't matter.

Reaching Platinum shows that you've got some baseline competence with the character. It equates to about Super Silver in SFV if I remember right.

In SF6, Platinum is where you will start seeing people who have an understanding over what their character can do. They might flub footsies or drop combos but they HAVE practiced something enough to get wins. They (might) know how to block on wakeup and how not to mash during pressure.

I have been trying to get all my characters to Platinum, I feel (for my skill level) that's a good starting floor.

I dunno what this thread is about - some people just want to complain about anything or discredit anyone's accomplishments unless they're literally 2000+ MR. You're fine.

Depends who you ask. It is a big deal for lower ranks.

Any arbitrary goal is what you make of it, plus there's so many variables involved with what makes for an impressive rank for you. If this is your first fighting game, it's definitely impressive, if this is your first fighting game and you reached it with less than 50 hours on the clock, it's super impressive. If you've won a major tournament in SFV or IV people might wonder what took you so long to get to Platinum.

But at the end of the day you yourself need to be happy with the progress. If you're climbing rank to impress some randos on the internet you're climbing for the wrong reason.

Platinum 1 means you've stopped mashing buttons, you've learned your character well, and you're probably not throwing out DI in neutral every 5 seconds. It's the baseline floor of, "OK, now we are really playing streetfighter," IMO.

I don't think it's a "big deal" necessarily but it shows that you're competent, you've spent some time learning, and you probably know fundamentals. It's an achievement for sure, a large majority of players will probably never reach platinum1, and far fewer will reach higher platinum levels or beyond. By around platinum 4 you're in the 90% percentile.

The other thing about Platinum 1 is that win streaks stop counting at that level. So Platinum 1 is a Grand Filter. Win streaks at lower levels can propel you all the way up to plat 1 before you're actually ready for it.

But if you grind to Platinum2 or beyond, you've done some real work.

Just my opinion of course. Cue the usual suspects to complain about modern controls even though this thread has nothing to do with that.

Plat is where the rubber meets the road and the real rank grind begins. No more win streaks, rank protection or other hand holding. Plat 1 is full of scrubery, 5 not so much.
Plat1 is top 28.5% of players
Plat5 is top 9.5% of players and you need to improve to top 7.5% to get out of plat5.

EDIT*
Congrats on Plat and keep grinding.

And then you realise that within that top 7.5% you have everything from people who are "good at the game" to "Actual Evo champions", the climb only gets steeper the closer to the top you get.

It was originally the highest rank until Diamond returns. Master rank is award for joining the Master League.(An entirely different circuit where most of the top players complete for Legend rank) I believe reaching Diamond is harder than Platinum.

Plat 3 or 4 is a pretty good rank as it means you can climb without a win streak. It means you're better than the majority of players if you're comparing yourself against everyone playing.

Plat 1 is still quite good, but overcrowded due to winstreaks giving huge bonuses in gold rank.

If you're only comparing yourself against people who 'take the game seriously' and are used to fighting games, I'd say master 1700+ MR is what i'd start describing as a 'high rank'.

For context I'm Diamond 3, these are just my impressions.

The actual rank is pretty irrelevant since Plat in 6 is way easier to get than Plat in 5.

Platinum is actually the rank with the most players, it was Bronze in 5 so that just shows how the ranked system has changed

That's true but slightly misleading the way it's written, IMO (not saying this was your intention, just clarifying). Platinum 1 has the most players when compared to any other rank, it's true (around 170k last I checked), but there are a lot more than 170k players below Platinum. And by the time you get to plat 3-4 you're in the 90th percentile.

It's a big deal if you want it to be. Do you feel you've improved? What did you learn? Was it hard to figure out/implement/prevent?

To have gone on a 12 game winning streak means something changed. That change got you to Plat 1. That is something to be proud of.
C1REX Sep 19, 2023 @ 5:32pm
Yes, it's a big deal. Well done :)

idk about that ive played higher ranks throwing way to many buttons out that got them kikilled - aka jab 6 times

People consider Master rank (Top 2% of all players) to still be "Low rank" despite literally being the highest rank in the game.

No matter what you accomplish, the FGC will always try to tear you down. Rank only "Matters" as much as it matters to you, because the community's opinions are completely worthless.
