Lag switchers
So I don't really know what lag switching is, but I see people talk about it often. What are the tale-tale signs someone is doing it? I had a match where at the wnd I went "fkin lag switcher" and had to laugh kuz I realized i didn't even know what it was.

In my case, I was playing against a 3 bar wifi guile who corner camped. I ended up winning the first match, and on rematch, all of the sudden, every time he would attack, the game would freeze; something that didn't happen first time around. Am I right in assuming thats what lag switching is?

I think the more probable cause is that people are masking wi-fi connections with bridging. Now why someone would do that instead of just buying a long ass cord ??? but I don't really think lag switching is viable in fighting games.

Even if they "lag switched" during your combo, it may not actually cause you to drop it. I really only visually confirm the first hit on most combos. I could literally close my eyes and do the rest of the combo by feel and rehearsed timing on most characters.

There are a few exceptions like Chun Li's air juggles where I need to pay attention to when my opponent rises from the launch, and when they start to fall, but even that I can do by feel, it's just more consistent if I can see it.

That's something only a lag-switcher would say.

Nah, Lag switchers are for noobs. I run auto DI and perfect parry hax so all that's left to do is hold assist and mash 1 button auto combo's for the dub.

tell tell signs imo

your kicking there ass then all of sudden the ping shoots up causing you to drop you inputs and they comeback and win.

your making a comeback and right before you kill them the game lags and you lose.

if you fighting someone and the ping jumps really high and they continue to attack you its intentional.

imo the people who seem to be legit will stop attacking, start jabbing or jumping in place until its over or put in a vote to cancel the match.

You played against a 3 bar wifi player. Literally sneezing would cause the game to start periodically freezing.

You did not fight a lag switcher. Just a lagger.

No, lag switching has been a thing for a while. You used to see people lag switch with Blanka in SF4 all the time

The thing no one really seems to be able to answer is how a lag switch would actually operate effectively with good roll back netcode.

I can see a case for delay based netcode, but someone attempting to lag switch you with rollback just seems like a fools errand, and probably not a thing. What people are probably experiencing is either bad WiFi connections, bridged WiFi connections, or budget/trashy ISP wired connections.

In Footsies arcade mode there's an opponent called Rollbacker. I really recommend giving it a try
