React to Drive Impact?
How is everyone practicing to react to drive impact? I know all the videos say "oh you can go for a run and get some lunch and come back and react to drive impact" but the exaggeration is getting kind of stupid. It's hardly a "very long time" as I keep hearing, so is anyone using anything in particular to react to it? Cant seem to

record 3 things in training and have play them back randomly.
cancelable poke into DI
cancelable poke into nothing
and raw DI

that'll vary the timing enough that you can practice recognizing it, you get about half a second from start to finish to use your own in response.

You get like half a second to react, which is pretty long all things considered imo.
You can react like Sid above me said, alternatively you could throw someone that raw DIs you.

Moves like Drive Impact are designed to be reactable. That doesn't mean you'll be able to react to it without practice. Do what the first comment here suggested to work on it.

It's much easier to react successfully if you anticipate a Drive Impact.

What I like to do at time is poke into drive rush into DI, idk why but going into DR helps with moves that have larger recoveries.

I don’t think you can simply react without being ready.
There are situations when DI is more likely and your finger should be ready.

Keep in mind that you can only DI when you're not currently doing a move that can't be cancelled. So if you expect a DI might be coming, don't commit to moves that'll have you eating it no matter how much you want to react.

Find some people around your level, become practice buddies, go to the practice area with them, get them to throw out cancellable normals and combos into DIs. Then help them with what they want to practice.

in fighting games they generally say anything over 23 frames is react-able, which is insanely fast, 2/5ths of a second. So here is something, you react faster to sound than you can react to vision, try to listen for it, hope it helps, it is still very fast, i have crappy reflexes because i'm old.

It's easier to react to when you're hitting the armor of drive impact with an attack that you can cancel into DI yourself. I structure my offense and defense in a way that accounts for drive impact because reacting to a raw DI is quite difficult. It doesn't really matter if you don't react midscreen and just block it.

You can adjust the audio. I lowered the music volume and raised (in advanced audio settings) the sound of drive moves. Makes a difference.

People have patterns, If someone keeps using it just recognise when and where they are going to use it. Typically when you are cornered or when they block your target combo's or punishing sweeps and jump in's. Bait it out, instead of sweep use a LK and counter it. Also spamming down light can usually beat it.

I think the reason you're having a hard time reacting to it is because you're still stuck at the stage where you are anticipating anything and everything. If you break down what the opponent can do, and then what they are most likely to do, it's no longer about reacting.

Play more, you'll get used to it.

Mental stack. When it's high, because you have to think consciously about everything, you can't react quickly. After the thing happens you go "dang I should have..."

When you refine your muscle memory so more and more is automatic, you can prioritise.
