If silver in sf5 was the 86th percentile as plat is here, then I'm not entirely sure how useful that system is at sorting people, since it means most would be clumped together in the lower ranks, with very little separating them.

It seems like it doesn't rank people to form a nice bell curve like 6 does. It was very discouraging for new players.
There's 5 ranks in Platinum, a one star platinum is not the same level of player as Five Star platinum
Street Fighter V only had platinum, super platinum, and ultra platinum, so there's two more ranks added for each tier
