I like the idea of placement matches but as far as the ranked grind goes, SF6's ranked manages to be less meaningful than SFV's

Honestly the biggest reason, and issue that currently exists with the ranked matchmaking for SF6 is that it prioritizes location above everything else to an extreme. Not something that's going to particularly matter in highly populated first world areas, or at lower ranks as much, but if you hit diamond let alone masters you'll definitely start to feel it when you're fighting the same people over and over.
It does happen but its only about a 10LP difference if your a silver losing to a gold your lose 40LP if your a gold losing to a silver is 60LP, iF your lose your a silver losing to a silver your lose 50LP.
