What pad to play with?
Hi, I'm new to this kind of game and I really enjoy it.

I decide to find something else than my xbox controller, since this is really painful to play. What are you guys using to play?

I'm attracted by the Razer Raion pad. Is that a good choice? what can you advise for this game?

Thanks and sorry for my bad english ;)

if you want a nice pad that has a really good dpad and cost fairly cheap compared to other fight pads, you can get the 8bitDo m30. Its a sega saturn clone pad, and the d-pad is really good on it. Also theres a pretty good pad you can buy called Betop Thorn, its a chinese i started trying lately, also quite cheap but very good also. Again, also has a very good d-pad. You could spend more and buy the expensive razor or hori pads, but ive been playing with these twop and theyre really good, especially the d-pads

Buy an m30 for $30.00 and forget other pads for fighters exist.

You can spend more but you won't do better than this. I've tried most of the standard pads and I keep going back to this one every time.

Thanks for the tip, I'll give the M30 a go.

These pads look interesting but lets look at the facts.
No pro is using these kind of pads. Nobody is using 6 front buttons gamepads. Nobody is using round dpads.
About 100% of good players who use a gamepad use a Playstation one. Ps4 usually but you can sometimes see a ps1 one as well. I think the ps1 is better but you need a ps1 to USB converter what makes it more problematic for tournaments.

However you do you. Always choose a controller you enjoy using. Many players use an Arcade stick not because it’s the best (it’s probably the slowest one) but because it’s the most enjoyable _for them_ to use so they play and train more = make them better.

Dude that’s like 200 dollars you’re better off just buying the razer kitsune at that point.

I hold Razer products at the same level as Apple products --Sparkly crap at a ridiculous price tag that performs worse than its budget version.

The Raion looks like a weird mix of a dualshock and the m30. Except the m30 is at least 150usd cheaper. Unless you have a playstation and thus need compatibility in that regard I see no reason to buy an obscenely marked up m30. Especially if you're unsure if you even like the feel.

ok thanks a lot !

My main problem is the Dpad which hurts my thumb very badly after a while. I believe it is because of the relief on the cross. That's why I thought a more rounded Dpad might be better.

I do not think to use the 6 front buttons since I'm too accustomed to the classic configuration.

PlayStation controllers are considered to have the best dpads for fighting games. The plastic on these controllers get glossy very quickly making your thumb slide on it for hours without sanding off your skin.
Sure, it may look not easy on thumbs due to separated directions but they feel great - especially after a while when the plastic changes from matt to gloss on their dpads.

Additionally you may improve your technique where you limit sliding your thumb on the dpad and press directions more by just tilting your thimb. It can get easier and quicker after some time.
Or gamepads are just not for you and a hitbox/keyboard or an Arcade Stick is a better solution for you.

Round looking dpads are more for look only in my opinion. I personally don’t find them any easier to use or any easier on your thumb. I also don’t like Series X controller with clicky dpad and buttons.

How buttons work: you press them.

Why buttons work: easier to change directions than moving a stick (arcade or analogue) through neutral, or moving your finger over a pad. Must faster and more precise directions. Hitbox controllers are so good that Capcom has recently put out new rules to nerf them a bit.

How the four movement buttons work: you have left, down and right on the left side. Then jump at the bottom, where a spacebar is on keyboard. You can use either thumb.
Try playing SF6 on keyboard using ASD and Space for movement. It's really good.

OK, I see. It's an optimized keyboard for fighting in a way.
