That being said money isn't the end all, be all for everyone. Nephew is passionate about Street Fighter, he's only going to live once so if he wants to chase what truly makes him happy then good on him.
Nephew is a smart dude, he's probably got enough of a nest egg between his liquid assets and I'm assuming something resembling a solid portfolio of investment assets... so it's probably not the gamble you think it is. He can always go back to being a software engineer if he has a legit FANG pedigree, so he's probably not worried about that.
If anything, its an example of why you should go to college.
