What is the likelihood of Chun Li winning Capcom Cup?
My prediction is that Chun Li will be this year's million dollar character. I think she will win because she is very underrated and in the right hands, she is unstoppable.

Do you think she will win Capcom Cup and if not, who do you think will win?

Chun Li is kind of in the awkward position of yeah she does things, but other characters do similar things better, kind of where Ryu was in S1.

At the very least I want the walk speed back, beyond that would love to see her stance game get some tweaks to make it more rewarding and central to her character. Most of the time you are using it to in DRC cancels to juggle, or throw out kind of safe kikokens without charge.

Every now and then you'll use it in a mix up, but it sees almost no use in neutral.

Also Shoryuken input for Tenshoukyaku please and thanks.

last season she was bugged cause of the projectile somehow being coming out faster on modern so they can abuse the walkspeed and projectile react every poke

Honestly Chun is still a fantastic character. The worst thing to happen to her going into S2 was Ed being optimized more. That hurt her more than any nerfs she received

Yeah that's actually a fair point. Chun Li is the "But we have Ed at home" version of Ed in S2. She's still a good character, just out shined by other options.

Yes please, down down inputs are are obnoxious, the goofy tiger knee style input you have to do for insta air lightning kick is less awkward.

How is she Ed at home? She's literally my worst character, so I wouldn't know.
There’s overlap in how Chun and Ed play. Both are neutral-heavy characters that want to play in midrange, focus on space control and whiff punishing. Over time, people realized Ed is able to do this more efficiently with the large range on his normals and he’s able to force a guessing situation from further away with his flicker stance. Even both their SA2s have a similar function being for corner carry and combo extensions. All this and Ed has a proper throw loop too. Ed’s MU chart is also better since he can keep up with characters that are normally bad MUs for Chun (Guile, JP, Dhalsim, Lily)

If you look at the top players that played Chun in S1, many of them moved to Ed. Valmaster and Moke are the only ones that have stuck with her. They’ll be the first to tell you she’s not a bad character at all, but she’s not a top pick for S2

season 2 she got destroyed by nerfs lol shes mid tier now and she hasnt won anything at all. 0 chance she will win anything

"Destroyed" is extremely an exaggeration. She is still a very solid character, the main issue is, as pointed out in the post above yours, is that Ed does whatever she does better. Kind of like how Marisa has largely disappeared from the competitive scene because Bison does whatever she does better.

ooh ooh don't forget chun li is one of those who didn't have throw loop
Peddie Nov 28, 2024 @ 4:55am
Oh I'm keenly aware. But most people would still put her in the top half of the tier lists, and I'd be inclined to agree. She's still way above the likes of Marisa and Jamie, but goodness knows what the situation next week will be~
Taisetsu na Miko Nov 28, 2024 @ 5:59am
Chun Li's major weakness in this game is that she really wants to have spacing in order to carefully plan an attack and this game is not built for that. While she can be stronger than any character in the right situations and with an extremely skilled player, she is going to completely fail when it comes to bad positions. She has to basically be lucky to be overpowered. I also think she is weak against Bison and Akuma and maybe even Terry. She does not deal with a lot of characters comfortably unlike AKI at the highest level.
Grampire Nov 28, 2024 @ 7:06am
I dunno, I think she's a few tweaks away from being pretty strong.

I don't think the Akuma or Bison matchup are that bad with her - she has tools to deal with their stuff. She's just harder to use.

she has no chance of winning not even 1% did a single chun even qualify for the cup? you can't expect a mid tier to win in a bracket with 48 of the best players in the world mostly playing broken characters

Nobody expected a Juri to win capcom cup last year yet here we are. You never know especially since Chun is super rare and nobody knows how to fight her.
Peddie Nov 29, 2024 @ 5:17am
Nobody expecting it is a bit of an exaggeration. UMA qualified in a pretty stacked region and even back then most everyone agreed season 1 Juri was a solid A tier.

That said, as was said, for a Chun-Li miracle, we first need a Chun-Li main in the event itself. And I somehow doubt MenaRD has a pocket Chun-Li to surprise everyone with in his darkest hour. She's neither an S rank nor a weird enough character for him to consider it.
