GET OFF THE WIFI
Is this whole community too broke to afford an ethernet cable?

I have a genuine question: what exacltly IS ethernet? :0

Is there an abbreviated definition? And why is it important? [I've never played a fighting game on computer before]

Ethernet is a way of connecting to the internet through a cable instead of wirelessly via wi-fi. Due to the nature of wi-fi, the data transfer is less stable and prone to jittering, lag, etc. Many people who are used to wi-fi don't see the issue when playing games, but for a fighting game like this, a stable connection is a *must-have.* In a game like this, every 60th of a second matters (What if the game doesn't register your invincible wakeup super because of unstable wifi?)
Most computers have a jack for ethernet cords (and if yours doesn't, there are adapters available for that.) If you hook up to your router or any of its extensions, your internet will be more reliable, and often faster. :hype:

People have their own right to enjoy this game on wi-fi, but they should also accept the fact that not everyone wants to face a wi-fi warrior.
Honestly, I just want a filter for online play, that just automatically rejects matches without a LAN connection.
I understand wanting a stable connection in ranked, but does it truly matter in more casual settings? Wonder what ethernet users think about that for the most part.

i have both wifi and ethernet, and ive found that aside from a slight lessening in personal anxiety in ranked matches using ethernet, the connection difference is isn't stark.

the wifi is fine for ranked matches, unless of course you're doing with red colored connection.

i have matches with wifi players all the time. it's fine.

I'm fine with wi-fi matches when I'm in the battle hub, but in ranked I decline wi-fi matches on principle. Some wi-fi matches have been fine, but I've noticed at least some degree of stutter in the *vast* majority of wi-fi matches I've played.

are you a worse player because of wifi? because i bet any pro e.g. Punk, Daigo etc, would win regardless of wifi.

That literally has nothing to do with it.

Your skill as a player is completely separate from enjoying laggy matches.

It baffled me when I did accept wifi matches, had enough lag where characters were jumpy and stuttering for 5+ frame intervals, and the other person wanted a rematch. Apparently that's "fine?"

No. Even if 60-70% of matches are lag free that's still 3-4 out of 10 matches that aren't.

I mean I'm in master so I'm not like, helpless at the game.
And I'm not trying to blame losses on it; I don't want to be playing on wi-fi even if I do win. It just makes your inputs and the game unreliable, so what's even the point of playing the game?
If you know what you're doing, there's potential for *everybody* to do worse because of wi-fi, because the connection isn't as smooth. It's like driving on a road full of potholes. Why do that when you can just take a smooth road?

i have both wifi and ethernet, and sometimes the ethernet is bad too. so now, im ambivalent about the whole wifi v. ethernet discourse because either way (wifi or ethernet) doesn't really affect my gameplay.

Well, yeah, if you or the opponent has slow internet in general then there's no connection that will save you. But wi-fi is far more prone to be a poor connection, regardless of the speed.
Sorry to hear about your connection problems though. :headstone:

dont get me wrong, SF6 has great connection. i have great connection on ethernet AND wifi. im just saying that maybe 1 out of 50 matches is a sketchy match regardless of wifi or ethernet. i've even played with red connection on wifi that is smooth so overall it's all good.

i guess what im saying is that the SF6 netcode is so good, that i have great connection with wifi and ethernet. so much so, that for me, the whole 'wifi v ethernet' discourse is negligible.

Look at the wifi warriors defending their dropped connections. Paragraphs and stories of their great times stealing dubs because they cant make it in a local.
