Why is matchmaking region locked?

as the title says?

they routed this game so weird , i can't find matches, i'm sure you all can't as well *and if you do? then it is 100% not optimal ,it doesn't even make sense.

60ms ping from us servers in every game in gaming history *i live in the caribbean, yet...
wit this game they force me deep south america etc? is this geographically based? how does this algorithm work?

capcom its 2024 ,

look up a submarine cable map and fix this problem that you have created, this doesn't even exist, mobile games get this right , this is AAA game..

Okay... The connection in this game is p2p. A server is only involved for handshakes in order to transmit some stats. The matchmaking is ping based. It tries to find players which have a low ping with you. If you have a third world internet connection or no one in your region is playing this game you are in for a bad time.

Unlike the "AAA" games you mentioned in SF6 you may choose to fight or not fight someone based on his connection. This again because it is p2p. If you have a bad internet connection or you run on WiFi, it is very likely that people decline you and you will not get matches.

Hence, it is a YOU problem.

You can change the search range between limited, extended and worldwide at the matchmaking settings. You will be matched depending on cour connection settings and your own connection. So if you allover have a mediocre ping, you won't find many matches.

actually i have a 1gb fiber connection, and i use an ethernet connection. i know how gaming works, don't try to down play me or where i live

Your fixation on servers left the impression that you have a lack of understanding how FG matchmaking works especially while you compared it to other games. The carribean is a very nice place! I could just imagine that there are not too many people playing SF compared to a more dense populated area in the world. I live in europe and I decline every player coming from south of the mediteranean. They may have the best fibre connection in the world with the best ethernet cable on the market. If I see less then 4bars, I'm not playing them.

bro .... players who use vpns claim that they find matches faster , why is that ? is their 'ping' magical lowered and they get a 4 bar connection? lol.. this is a problem , don't get me wrong the rollback is great , it's just that the matchmaking is probably the worst in the history of gaming... and they know that ,that is why they rolled out this little gimmick patch with limited and extended.. its just frustrating , imagine i can type all of this and not find a match lol.

I don't understand. You state a solution to your problem. VPN in this case. Yet you are here to complain about the problem not being solved. Seems a bit off if you ask me. Anyway. This discussion is leading nowhere. For the majority of players the matchmaking is just fine. It is unlikely someone will cater to a tiny minority with its problems. It just isn't thriftily.

I am from Hong Kong and I can guarantee you VPN does not work well here
If you are in the same region like me (East Asia - Phillipine / Indonesia)
You can only get Japan, Korea, China & HK & Taiwan players most of the time
There're not a lot of options here especially fighting game does not have a considerable scale of player base in 2024 (its peak was 90s-00s)

For Carribean, I assume there are only pirates
Joke aside. I guess there's not lots of luck for you in a small area like that

It sounds really bad but that's how real world works unless earthquakes move the planet utterly and the human race doesn't die out.

yes i realize this , i just raised the issue because even though i am of 'minority' , i empathize with the others players that face this as well,

It used to be hard region-locked indeed.

A month or so before the last patch that introduced the range filter option, the matchmaking started expanding in range (they were probably testing it on the backend before they rolled the update out) .

Right now, if you set your matchmaking to 3-5 bars and Worldwide, you are guaranteed to find matches.

As for why you don't match with US East, that has to do with the fact that most US East players have better connections between them than with the Caribbean, and the matchmaking prioritizes that. Even if they forced 3-5 bars matchmaking for everyone, people would start rejecting yellow bar connections like they do with wi-fi.
