As a quintessential casual for SF, I have 0 interest climbing up the ranked ladder, and get the most fun w/ the custom avatar MP matches & the story mode instead. Something hilarious about trying to think of the most OP character you can make & taking it to MP to see how it feels and turns out.

And as for modern controls, it makes the game great for me to just pick up and drop whenever I feel like it without needing to dedicate time to learn how to be optimal with classic controls.

I love fighting games, but I'm a die hard casual lmao. Haven't played a single ranked match, and just play vs whoever in the Battle Hub. Hit me up, we can do a few sets

Im a noob too; been only playing for about a week; i played about 15 matches in ranked for placement and just for practice. It's essentially why I play ranked, practicing some of the moves. So, I am Spammy Cammy, but purely because i'm practicing specific inputs and combos for muscle memory, not bc I got nothing better to do. I do play in BH as well, both fighting and observing.

I did learn one thing though - beat WT first bc inputs between Ranked/BH and WT are different and will mess you up when you;re trying to learn

While this is pretty funny and somewhat relatable, ranked itself pretty much solves this itself. At very least solves it better than going "fellow baddies let's get together" which is way too vague to find equal skill levels.

People don't seem to understand that ranked mode is, by design, the most casual-friendly mode in the whole game.

"Casual" matches are woefully mis-labeled. I feel as though 80% of the folks playing casual are people that take ranked seriously enough they use it as a "warm up" mode before their daily push to Master. The other 20% are the poor folks who don't know any better.

Also, the concept of "casual" is awfully loose. For someone who has 1,000+ hours in the game, and knows 9 or 10 characters like the back of their hand, their concept of "casual" is going to be pretty traumatic to someone who got the game last month and just likes to push buttons and see the colors on the screen.

Ooooh, sign me up. I was competitive about 15 years ago before my reaction time seemed to go to the way of the dinosaurs and I developed carpal tunnel so I sometimes have to play modern because my hands hurt too bad...

Sorry I JUST replied to this post when I saw this... Problem is that since it's ranked, eventually you hit a wall where the only way to progress is to become more hardcore or just lose enough continuously till you rank down then back up then the loss streak again. it's just not fun after a while.

Cable only matters in serious business ranked. Wi-fi is fine, otherwise.

Master rank player here and I think this is a wonderful idea and I too would like to join. Theres lots of characters id like to try but I dont care enough to learn or practice them and just kinda want to mess with them in a match setting. I dont care about winning or losing on these other characters like I do my main and am willing to mess around for funsies.

It just sucks trying to get into ranked with a new character, being dropped in diamond and then falling back to plat or gold because i dont know anything about the character or when hes plus or how his moves work or even the inputs.

This seems like a really good idea even for players that are good because it allows them to have fun and relax while playing new characters.
