I'm admittedly being pedantic but self-insert is still woefully wrong. That is, by its definition, an author making a character in their own image in the fiction they make. So unless you know something about what goes on at Capcom that I don't, there is no way that she can fit that bill.

But if we want to talk "Mary Sues", the franchise is full of them, including its protagonist. Ryu left his mountain of training and instantly won his first ever tournament, defeating the "Emperor of Muay Thai" with a near fatal Shoryuken. And then goes on to defeat a powerful dictator wielding unnatural powers in his second run... and boy oh boy, he wins in III too (while still insisting he's not a true warrior yet).
Even Goku needed three attempts to get his first major tournament win.
It's only much later in Ryu's development that they start to retroactively tack some Ls to his track record.

So like, Kimberly isn't even shown to be particularly powerful, all she has going for her is that she's the student of one of three dudes that took on the Mad Gear gang. The one with the least plot importance in later Final Fight fiction at that. So I'm kind of struggling to see something to make the Mary Sue accusation stick. Especially within the fiction of Street Fighter which has had upstarts going toe to toe with titans for over 35 years.

people pay good money for Outfits in SF6. Best not to mar the look with spray paint. One way of thinking about it.

Kim is very fun. A great lively character. Zeku was cool, but I felt that his Strider alter-ego was like Capcom ran out of ideas. Never heard of Maki.

I prefer Kimberly Jackson over any other practitioner of Bushinryu.

Maki was in later Final Fight games like was Lucia in SF5
She's pretty much a Blonde with a high pony tail with a basic gi with no pants, the sleeves removed and used a tonfa, Kim is even using one of her moves as a lv2 super

pay attention to the moves Ken uses in his normal attacks, most are the same but in different spots

yes they trained under gouken just like how lilly trained in T hawks village learned same stuff as him doesnt make her a clone its there culture its what they learn

You know i'm honestly curious: Why does everyone hate Kimberly so much? why does everyone hate the new characters in general and are so stuck on OG characters. i can understand that a lot of you grew up with these characters, but i can understand if they change them around. The message of SF6 is to bring in a new generation of fighters and replacing the new generation with the old ones defeats that purpose.

Meaning if they made a SF7 with this new lineup you guys wouldn't play that game at all:

New character that replaces Guile

Kimberly

New character that replaces Juri

Mel Masters

Manon

Marisa

JP

Lily

Aki

ED

Rashid

Marisa

And New characters that replaces Zangief, blanka, Dhalsim, Honda, and Deejay.

That's why Street Fighter III tanked back in the day, it wasn't until this century that Third Strike appreciation really started taking off. Capcom's learned their lesson, I sincerely doubt they'll ever make a Street Fighter without Ryu and the gang. It's also why SF6 had all the World Warriors out of the gate.
