Why do people turtle so much? Im not having fun anymore.
The only kind of players I see as i rank up out of platinum and into diamond are people that back up constantly and force you to walk them down. (outside of ken and luke who sometimes still turtle) The game is very boring when everybody is zoning and running constantly. They refuse to even try to get in even taking losses to timing out instead of taking the initiative to push forward. They just want to back up and punish jump ins with dps or only go in when they have pressure from a projectile.

The game has become very stale and im tired of half the cast running with characters that help these tactics. Just played blanka, chun li, Jp, Aki, Lili and guile. 6 turtles back to back that refuse to move forward and only zone and back up. 2 of these matches went to the last few seconds because they make you chase them across the screen and refuse to interact. Follow that with 3 kens back to back that make you guess 50/50s all match and try to react to his plus kick.

Anybody else experiencing this? Am I the only one tired of having to constantly walk people down? The game feels stale and the people I play against play the definition of lame.

And it took him 40 seconds to get up and approach me. A full 40 seconds for him to press the forward button and actually play the game.

It's absurd to me that people exist who find this strategy fun.

didnt you just post this

but also: you have to get good enough in order to beat these people. Sorry it's boring but this is what happens when you're no longer bad enough to just hold forward and mash buttons into the opponent - people react too much the other way until they learn.

I don't know what to tell you other than: yeah it's boring when people aren't good at fighting games, that's why you're playing to get better to fight better people.

The start of diamond is where people start noticing that opening yourself up is the worst mistake you can make, even worse than dropping combos, and you can't make those mistakes if you're not pressing buttons to begin with, so some of them end up going down that hole: they turtle because at their current rank that is what works for them. They should stop turtling if you show them it won't work on you.

Same goes for people playing donkey kong and holding UP permanently which you might find occasionally in diamond - they learned that this works against most players (or they're just deathly afraid of grabs), so they do it, and they'll keep doing it until you tell them "I actually know how to deal with that, that won't work here".

Most players are very aggressive, so by playing defensively you have a huge advantage on them.

Since we have parry you can literally just walk up to them and PP their fireballs. If you're not good at doing that, then these matches are actually a great place to learn - I personally make a point of never pressing back when the opponent is throwing fireballs, I just take the opportunity to train.

I realized before you did that it would go well as its own thread and would get better feedback that way. This is why you saw it twice.

I can handle walking people down fine. I walk down diamond guiles and Jp's with the quickness and very frequently. But after 1000 matches of walking people down slowly it just gets super stale and boring. Then after being bored it starts getting annoying. Then I start getting straight up triggered. I never had this problem in my 500 hours in street fighter 5 but that game felt like it had less people who could easily turtle or neutral skip into 50/50 so easily. Maybe i just need a break from the game or maybe the game isnt as fun as sf5 to me. Thats why im here to get feedback to see if im the only one burnt out.

I appreciate this post. I have seen this from Sajam before but I had forgotten that I had seen it and it was refreshing to get his take on this again. Its honestly just nice to know im not the only one dealing with this issue. Unfortunately his advice was what I already understood which is just to continue walking people down with the greatest of patience. He even addresses that his advice is kinda generic and lame but asserts that it is in fact the truth and all you can do. I also remember watching him get master with Zangief and complain THE ENTIRE TIME so i know he feels how bad it is to play Gief at a higher level especially against people that just hold back.

Anyway I really appreciate the helpful feedback. Thank you.

SFV very much had both of those things

Thats because its not the playing or interactions for these people that they find fun, its winning. Same as any competitive player. Once heard BrianF say that its not fun if hes not winning, regardless of how good the match was or how it went. People who take fighting games truly seriously only care about winning which is why they place so much emphasis on playing better instead of having fun.

Totally understand your point. thanks for the input!

sf6 has nooch skip built into every character with the new mechanic. There where lots of characters that couldnt do that in sf5 although the turtling was def still as much of an issue. But i never got tired of it in that game and i have 2 to 3 times more play time in that game. So whats the difference between the two that makes 6 so much less fun to play? Any ideas? Maybe the character i main is just too low tier and the game needs balancing?

They do it because you haven't learned to deal with it.

Fighting games are inherently competitive. People use whatever tactic is most likely to secure them the win. You don't know how to deal with defensive play, and anyone who notices that will use it to beat you. Once you get better and figure out that playing on the backfoot is a huge disadvantage (unless you're Guile, I guess) you will run into something else that people do that annoys you. Because you don't know how to beat it. Once you get better and learn to deal with that, something new will appear.

People will use their strengths against your weaknesses.

Except i have learned to deal with it. I walk down Guile and JP as Zangief easily. But after 1000 matches of running after people who back up it gets old. Then it gets boring. Then it gets annoying. Then it gets tilting. Eventually i just get tired of it and i know others do to cause even pros like Sajam complain about it like he did in all his Gief to master videos.

Its not that i cant do it, its that i get tired of doing it over and over and over as it gets stale. I can teach one guy not to but the next guy will anyway and here i am being forced to be patient and skilled again agianst people who turtle and yolo skip nooch.

Thats because i was placed in diamond right out the gate from my placement matches. I fell to plat 4 and have been working my way back up when i feel like playing ranked. Now are you gonna add something of value or is it all salt and pointing fingers?

Then why in that thread did you claim you hadn't played rank yet and were playing casual only?
Seems you can't keep up with your own ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
