But even without the só called region lock, people would still have trouble if they live in weird places. The netcode is good, but because of wifi warriors I have my setting at "4 or more bars", and I usually reject non-5 wifi. I'd imagine most people are either on 3+ or even 5 only. By that point you'll only accept matches below 60ms, so even if there was no region lock at all, these players would not have been available to you.
The matchmaking could be improved for the edge cases where it currently doesn't work (like Russia is a big country, you can't really have a single Russia rule when one corner of Russia is neighbors with some countries and the other is neighbor with others), and while I hope they fix it, I kind of doubt they will. It's been years and guilty gear strive still has no idea over what to do over non-japan issues. The system certainly works great in Japan, so "works on my machine", and changes become unlikely.
Hell, its just in the last decade that Japanese developers felt like rollback was kind of a big deal outside of countries that manage 10ms to neighboring countries.
If they didn't prevent people in the middle of nowhere from getting into games that their connection can't sustain, people would just decline them manually. It sucks, I get it, but if you live a million miles away from people then you are just not someone others want to play with in a fighting game. Move, or move on. It's a shame, but those are your only two options.
Stop being baited please
Looks like I gotta call John Capcom to prepare the funeral. It was good while it lasted.
