Hotbox worth?
I started on ps4 controller, but due to thumb pains, I switched to keyboard, and found it genuinely made the game much more fun to play. I saw recently razor released a hitbox and was wondering if it was worth looking into, or am I better sticking with keyboard.

For reference, my setup right now is:
W=jump, ASD = Left, down, right,
Insert, Home, Pgup = light,med,heavy punch
Del, End, PgDn = light, med, heavy kick
Shift = parry
Space = grab
F= Drive Impact
I think the hitbox has less buttons than this, so I'd have to get used to not having 1 button micros, but I'm genuinely curious if people think it's a significant upgrade.

If I were to swtich from fightpad to leverless then yeah would go hitbox. Though that's just my opinion, use whatever is comfortable to you no matter what someone says.

In an ideal world you could go to your local and ask someone using a leverless controller if you could try theirs for a few rounds, but I know all too well that a huge part of the world lives nowhere near anything resembling a locals.

That said, most of these controllers have eight face buttons minimum so you'd only lose out on one of the instant parry, grab, or DI macros. Or you could pull a Daigo and have a custom one built with another button on the side for another macro. But I'd first invest in a more affordable one to find out if you even enjoy playing leverless.

If you're not afraid of a little electrical engineering there are also sites that basically sell you all the parts in a bag and you just need to assemble it yourself to further cut costs.

button spacing/general ergonomics, the lack of extraneous buttons, and SOCD cleaning being required for competitive play, but a fancy word for key ghosting on keyboard.

Easier to carry and use if you travel for tournaments and don't have to worry about converters via being able to custom make a hitbox, bigger buttons and can be ergonomic with the space,

If budget is a problem a keyboard can be fine but I feel it's more suited to smaller hands.

I made the change to leverless exactly because of the same reason as you, thumb pain after decades of playing FGs with a D-pad.

I got a Razer Kitsune Chun-Li Edition, and even tho I still need to get used to it, I "feel" the responsiveness already so yea, I def recommend you to use a leverless if you are thinking about it.

Best regards.

You can get a flatbox on etsy for like $80-100 that does exactly what a hitbox does with even lower latency cuz the PCB is actually faster than brooks (which costs a ton of money). If you only game on PC you don't need a Brooks PCB. See GP2040 firmware.

Granted they're much smaller. But a hitbox is 2-4x as expensive.
I have pretty much everything, you should try it before you buy it.

There are many homemade hitboxs on aliexpress with 17/18+ buttons at good price(~=$100) Tho those are not exactly tournament legal(CPL dictates 4 direction + <= 11 attack buttons, no more). The good thing is almost all of them uses GP2040 firmware and you can easily disable them or remove them physically.

Razor one while better build quality but it has way less button than opposition and is way overpriced.

bro try the razer kitsune. only tried it on the sf demo the tutuorial and maybe 7 or 8 matches vs cpu! but it is awesome in MK, DOA 5/6, and killer instinct!

the hitbox, junkoof and all others have a supply problem! the snackbox micro is awesome if you can get it. but the kitsune is in stock and has 2 custom sf artwork

Leverless is by far the best controller type. If you have the money go for it.

I'll see if they have any Razer Kitsunes in stock near me or on amazon lol. I heard they're going to have custom plates too, so idk if its worth buying the chun li or get stock black and try to find a custom cover
I don’t like pads either, I prefer sticks
Pads just hurt my fingers and thumbs.

I’ve always been a fan of Hori sticks, I have a few of them. Always pay for a good one, one with sanwa or hayabusa parts, never buy a cheap one

Never fancied lever less controllers, a controller that is all buttons just feels weird to me. I can’t even imagine how long it must take to adapt to that. Also bare in mind a hit box doesn’t position the movements buttons in the same way as a keyboard would so you’d still need a lot of adaption

Nothing beats the feeling of a good stick in your hand, yeah I know how that sounds

I'd buy a hitbox only if they move wasd to the right side but those are rarer.

What I wouldn't give for a world where left handed controllers were widely available~

Eternal Rival (and presumably other made-to-order custome stick makers) will probably accomodate that. If you're comfortable with sourcing the parts and constructing the pieces yourself, you can actually get a really nice controller for cheaper than name brands.

The best controller I've ever used came from Eternal Rival, and I'll shill for him all day. He was very accomodating, and he was willing to make changes for me that were absolutely not standard.
