Zangief vs JP is what's almost unwinnable.
The hardest match in the game. A true nightmare.
In such a matchup you must have Buddha's patience and play like a shmup or just send everything to hell and be SUPER aggressive with Drive Rush, Drive Impact, armoured attacks and/or that jumping kick with both feet to keep up close and personal.
Against JP, it's not that bad, but Dhalsim, either you have drive bar or not, you will still have the BIG problem to get near him and 1 knock down he teleports away.
Dhalsim is his nightmare.
Just the inherent problem of putting a slow guy with a large frame against someone with projectiles and normals that cover most of the screen. So with this being a bad match-up for thirty years and running, the only possible fix is to just... make Zangief a different character.
Does he have a tool to bypass stretchy arms?
Yeah, Zangief's Dhalsim matchup has 57 votes and is 6:4 on eventhubs: https://www.eventhubs.com/tiers/sf4/character/zangief/
Counterpoint: Zangief, being a grappler, should have problems against a zoner, especially a zoner as top-tier as JP.
His grabs must be faster than other fighters. Only after it - your opinion may make sense.
But I won most match against JP in master rank with 1700 point. But Dhalsim is another story. You cannot jump or move forward. You are locked. Even if you get near him of lock him on wall, he can escape easily and go back to neutral.
In SF6 is impossible mission. I do not even know if gief 2+2+HK can counter Dhalsim long range HP, Mp, HK...
Well, they're not.
