Average player level is terrible ?

I struggled to have good ranks in SF5.
In SF6 you can be diamond just by having good footsie/neutral. Average platinum players looks like SF5 bronze.

peak playercount SF5: 14K
peak playercount SF6: 70K
in fact current playercount right now (noon in europe and night in US - most of steam customers) is almost as high as sf overall peak

That and the system is designed to push you up the ranks fairly quickly - probably a trick for player retention as well so people feel good about progressing

anything below master pretty much doesnt really matter

Larger playerbase. Point distribution in ranked is more merciful. The MR system after you hit master is closer to SFV's ranked system

More importantly, the addition of iron rank and 5 subdivisions in each rank make it so SFV and 6's ranks don't match. Gold in SF6 is closer to silver in SFV. Most of diamond in SF6 is closer to plat in SFV, etc.

SFV rankings are no more, forget about them, you should think of MR as a more accurate indicator of skill.

I have 503 hours in SF5. My maximum rank was Ultra Gold. But mostly Super Gold.
Here in SF6, I got Platinum without any big troubles. Now I am Diamond 2-3. May be I can get even Master. So yeah, something wrong with ranked system here.

nothing wrong with it, the rank system is design to push you towards master where the real rank system begins

This is not the right decision. Better sit on Super Gold rank with 60% winrate than sit on Master with 45% (or even less) winrate. I do not want to see players who live in this game. Because I am not one of them.

Just because Capcom completely changed the ranking system, and the real ranking now starts from the Master MR system, doesn't mean players suddenly play worse. They just changed rank names to make people feel better.

Went to Gold 4 with Cammy I played without blocking and with mostly dive kicks. The only defeats was against some Platinum Zangief.
Myself during SFIV era would demolish me in Street Fighter games now.

I was a Super Silver Chun in SFV, but I didn't work as hard at that game as I should've. I think Chun was too hard for me in that game.

I plan to hit Diamond 1 with Juri at around 100 hours. I'll decide then if I want to keep going or if I'll take another character up to Diamond, then repeat.

I'm not amazing at this game but I have always loved Street Fighter and I think learning the game is like playing a musical instrument. You get out of it what you put into it.

my highest was gold in sf5 (admittedly it was extra hard because i was using menat, who is quite difficult to play well. more difficult than anyone in sf6, for sure), but i got to diamond in this game with dhalsim pretty easily...

you'll find that most high level pros really think that everything below master is just the kiddie pool and the only thing that really matters is Master Rank points.

Why not take them to master instead?

I may - I feel like I could get there with Juri, but I want to enjoy more of the cast.

I'm also taking a detour and learning leverless, so I may get to Diamond with Juri on Stick then take Chun to Diamond on Leverless.

Ranking system makes it very easy to reach Diamond in SF6, so you have to scale everything down by one.
Master SF6 = Diamond SF5
Diamond SF6 = Platinum SF5
