I don't really see it happening. BlazBlue and Guilty Gear have had simplified control alternatives for years, but still maintain traditional control schemes. In fact, after a season or so you don't really see simplified controls being used outside of the beginner levels. In those games there is no damage reduction to the specials or supers either. You might a player here and there seeing relative success with the control scheme.

uhhh it's not an "alternative" anymore in strive/cross tag.

I wanted all Street Figher and KOF cast in Smash Bros but they didn't gave it to me.
So I'll buy SF6

SF6 seems fine enough.

Just be aware that in the next street fighter "Modern" controls will be "Normal" controls. They're just weening you off of the old way.

Also, when Melty Blood Type Lumina launched auto combos were literally mandatory.

Why do people just straight up ignore truth?
In about ten years time SF will be just one button.

Street Fighter 8: Can you press the BIG BUTTON fastest.

And people think Idiocracy wasn't accurate.

Doubtful, I think this is just an attempt by capcom to maintain new players, but I think it'll have the opposite effect. Modern controls are setup in a way that encourages button mashing more than anything and while it is possible to do more with them, I don't see it being viable at a high level due to damage debuffs, and limited move sets.

I don't see it full on just because it takes away too much expression and set play variety. Worse case they'll move more to the MvC four button style system, having a special button to do the heavy lifting seems more so like an added feature set. Granblue, DNF Duel, etc still aren't the break away hits they need to be to put capcom in that corner to force change on everyone.

Capcom is trying to save your joints from repetitive motion injuries. Carpal tunnel syndrome and arthritis can occur from playing games that require a lot of fast, precise inputs. So, look at it that way, instead of being so negative. They're trying to help.

Yeah, Cross Tag's main complaint on release was the exclusively simplified control options. I think FG developers have gone on to learn from that mistake, seeing as how ArcSys reversed course and reverted the decision since then. Strive removed Stylish controls and went the route of simplifying universal mechanics. It definitely made the game more accessible and is a big part of the reason why it's seen the commercial success that it has.

Fighting game developers tend to be more sensitive to community discourse than their industry counterparts and I feel the reactions for the aforementioned titles have influenced design decisions for SF6. That's even stronger affirmation that Classic controls aren't going anywhere.

and yet they simplified the controls in Strive and had the biggest hit in their entire history.

Keep coping though.

haha sure bro.

And guilty gear will always be the "hardest" fighter to get into. Also Mortal Kombat would never censor itself.

If so, expect players to suddenly drop the franchise.
