I believe the Capcom Id is linked to your Steam Id. It is automatic when you launch the game. Now I suspect that you will have problems connecting it to a console account if you don't establish an account in Capcom Id with your email address and Steam Id. If you only play the Steam version, then you Steam Id should work. It says Steam Id linking is supported on the main store page in the DRM section. I would like to know if my assumption is correct.

I was able to play the demo and create a character. When I quit the demo, my progress was not saved. When I restarted the demo, I had to start again, but the custom character I had created for World Tour was still there. There was a note in there stating that that custom character was stored in the Capcom Id account. That is why I believe the website login is only needed if you want to connect accounts outside of Steam.

Edit: The login was also needed for the public beta as well.

Your progress in the demo is not save, with ID or not, Only your character appearance can be used in the final version.
