How to join tournaments?

So I'm in the battle hub and go over to the events counter and am surprised to see that they actually have tournaments coming up! While it is showing this, it won't let me enter as it says "preparing sign ups". So like, when would we be able to sign up to join a tournament? Does anyone know how it will work?
