Drive parry superior than blocking or am i missing something?
Why shouldnt i always hold drive parry instead of trying to block?
Drive parry makes me invincible to anything but grabs, but block doesnt help against grabs either. While i have to look out for high or low attack for block, i dont have to if i just hold drive parry. Drive parry counters drive impact, block doesnt. To make matters worse, if i block i lose drive meter, if i parry i gain drive meter.
Is there any reason to use block over just drive parry? Block is only superior if the enemy doesnt hit you, but then again why block in the first place?

if you dont perfect parry, drive parry has like a 10f recovery before you can do anything unless you cancel out of it with forward dash

you take more damage from grabs when you parry(as it is a punish counter), but you are right parry is really strong and kinda overtakes blocking in many situations

its why throws are very meta right now to counter this.

If you aren't parrying anything you have a recovery animation, both during the recovery and parry stance you are in a punish counter state and take alot of damage from throws. Gief and Manon especially will tear you to shreds if you get caught during the parry stance. So no you shouldn't mindlessly hold the parry button but you should still try to parry as much as you can to recover your drive bar. It's important to strike a good balance or you're just gonna die from throws.

- it has startup and recovery
- if opponent doesn't attack, you lose meter and get punish thrown (extra damage)
- counter attacking after a parry has 50% scaled damage from the start

now, if you're talking about single player, then do whatever you want, it really doesn't matter

Okay, is that worse than being in block stun?

So if i dont play against a command grab character, all i need to do is watch the distance and parry is always the better option over block, is it not?

No, because the recovery is a very significant downside to block. Say you hold parry in a distance the opponent can just jump and throw. You would not be able to anti-air normally as you need to wait until you finished the parry recovery, which is long. If you hold block, your anti-air goes out immediately.

Throws have always been very meta. This is where shimmying comes into play.

Terrible use of meter imo, but that's just my opinion.
