Classic or Modern?
I am pretty much brand new to fighting games with less than 5 hours total for all fighting games combined. Should I stick with modern and then switch when I understand things better, or switch to classic so I am not at a disadvantage learning it later?

I would use classic if that's what you want to learn. It would probably be difficult to learn classic if you start out with modern.

Just do whatever you think is fun.

If you want to stick with modern you can simply switch to classic later on. Won't take too much longer to adapt since you will be familiar with all the major mechanics.

Modern. It's fun and it works. You're going to get assailed by elitist gatekeepers in a moment, but trust me.

If you know you want to eventually use Classic, start using it now.

Modern is good for new players, however limited. Classic can give you the most out of gameplay but takes time to learn. In my opinion if you are casual and playing here and there stay with modern. And if you are dedicated to learning the game then I would do classic.

Nothing wrong with sticking to Modern, other than the damage/damage scaling trade-offs for using Modern, as long as you have access to their important/good normals in neutral (i.e. I know Kimberly doesn't have access to cr.MP/2MP in Modern & it's key for her) it'll be alright. I'd say ride with it and if you get more into and aspirational with this game after a few months, then revisit the decision again.

A useful fact which doesn't seem to be widely known: you can actually do motion inputs while using Modern. Why this would be useful: some special moves have 3 different versions (L/M/H) which are optimal to do at different times, and the single button version will only do one of them.

Modern is great on controller. Classic on stick.

Modern but learn the basics first. Like blocking.

just like when playing racing games. i go manual because i like having more control. classic all the way.

I use modern because I play like a billion other online games and don't really feel like memorizing stuff that'll be irrelevant when the next game eventually comes out.

Why cripple yourself but learning an inferior control scheme and then having to relearn the way the game is going to be played by most serious fighitng game players.

Lol at the comment above, even this game has legacy skill over two decades of streetfighter none of the core combat has changed significantly. This is not mortal combat where they reinvent the wheel for each character in every game.

Play what you want. Don't let people determine what you should like.

You are missing out on A LOT OF MOVES if you go modern. My advice would be to stick to classic controls.

It makes the game challenging; as it should be.

I am guessing here but I think that the modern controls were made more for the story mode because fighting multiple opponents at the same time has never been done and the modern control style seems to try and streamline the more effective techniques, but I wouldn't trust it online with another player or even against the AI in Arcade mode.

The more versatile your fighters is, the better off you are.
