So the modern control scheme is the main culprit???
I... have a hard time believing this. Makes me hate that ♥♥♥♥ even more.
Modern controls are cancer and it's aimed at people that will likely drop the game after they have completed tour mode anyway.
I don't think you understand.
The point of WT, supposedly, is not only to add more single-player content, but also to ease new players and train them about the specifics of the game's system.
If a new player has to be forced to go through all that grind with an avatar moveset that does not reflect the "official characters" that the big boys play with, he/she would be less likely to stick around after WT is done, because too few of what he's used to in WT would work in the big leagues. Why would a new player keep playing the game if his first 20++ hours grinding in WT is not at all what they are in Ranked or even Casual matches? You think that newbie would want to waste more hours in Training just to gitgud after that many hours?
If the entire thing works like SoulCalibur 3 where the player cannot mix-match moves, but has an ENTIRE character's movelist available as Soul of <<Character>> , the training in WT mode as a way to "ease new players" would make more sense.
I'm beginning to think that, after playing Avatar matches, Capcom deliberately set up the system this way to milk on whales who never intend to go 'proper', only stay in Avatar Matches, & just pay big bucks to buff their stats.
What Capcom should have done, is offer players the option to either use the current movelist rule, or adopt one character's entire style(Soul of Ryu, Soul of Juri, etc) without mixing other characters' moves.
This does sound like a pretty solid compromise, though on that note if they wanted to keep the current progression system of gradually unlocking moves intact, the "Souls of" would have to be something you unlock at a later Style or Bond level per Master.
Hell, this should have been the option to get once the player maxes out Bond; proof that the avatar has reached true mastery of a character's style.
And while we're at it, also allow players to equip piece of the Masters' costumes too(this should be rather easy to implement, unless their intention is to force players to spend extra money to pay for the costume with FP)
Ken's red gi, a SF Alpha-looking Chun-Li outfit, and Hugo's pink leopard leotard are all in the game already on some of the "random nobody" NPCs, so it's at least probably possible to give your character some "classic" costumes assuming anything seen on such NPCs is obtainable.
Tho I'd definitely also expect some exclusive costume pieces in the upcoming Battlepass and such. Such is modern-day AAA vidja gaem monetization.
I personally just wish we had the ability to make extra custom characters using any gear pieces/moves we'd found in World Tour, where they'd have "normalized" stats rather than the leveling/gear-based numbers, so that you could use said custom characters in free play ala Soul Calibur.
It feels like a waste to have customization this extensive and an entire section of the online lobbies be reserved for Avatar Battles, only for said battles to basically boil down to "who's had the most free time to level up/grind gear upgrades?"
