heavy SPD and ex SPD are on the easy input, not the light one with reach (the actually scary one). one button EX SPD is still dangerous but it does less damage and can't be spammed. also it's honestly really easy to do 360 inputs in this game. I was playing with a friend and picked Lily for fun, I was doing it with 100% consistency even though I never extensively played any character with 360 motions.

I mean, I get that you don't have the level of flexibility that you would with classic controls, but one-button SPDs are literally the thing that people were afraid were coming when modern controls were first announced. I tried it out earlier today and I was able to not only play effectively with just two buttons (special and EX) but actually managed to go on a 6 win streak. You gain a significant reduction in reaction time when your mental stack is reduced to two options, and I don't think the devs fully considered the consequences this would have on ranked play
I think the real consequences of modern is people who are new to the game trying to get good playing on classic while the noobs have access to a full range of combos while not putting the work in.

You never have to play anyone using modern so it's a non-issue.

"putting the work in"

lmfao

it's his HP SPD, if you lose to a Gief spamming that stuff, you have bigger pbs than Modern vs Classic

as Nash would say it's "too easy" to replace a complicated input with one button press, making Zangief overpowered

You guys are worrying about the wrong move. And classic controls Gief is actually way more dangerous.

I think more people should be using Modern. I was playing in a Friends Room and there are a lot of proud begginers who insist on Classic and lose terribly. I think they would do much better with Modern controls.

or maybe they did and didn't care because they want everyone to eventually move to modern. Ever considered that?

Really what it does is even the odds a little for new players and lets everyone try new characters easily. At this point some of us have been playing these games longer than the new players have been alive. Doing a kara SPD is like tying shoe laces. Sure the execution time is an advantage but it comes with a sacrifice. Up to you to decide if it is worth it.

Even if you do use modern controls you can still do the commands to get the other versions of the specials.

You can just do light SPD manually and enjoy the madness of modern.
