Better matchmaking results with VPN on
Not sure why that is, or if its mere coincidence. But using a VPN decreased my search times drastically whilst maintaining 4/5 bar lag free matches. I did not change country, I just set the VPN to the country I am in. A VPN is supposed to make things worse in theory, but in this case I find matches way faster

Edit: As for speeds it pretty much halved mine, but if you have a high top speed to start with, the halving does not matter for online gaming

Does a VPN not affect your latency?
THE WARDEN Jun 2, 2023 @ 2:30pm
My ping with it off is 1-2ms. With it on it went up to 15-20ms. in my matches it mostly display a ping of around 30-40, within acceptable range & no issues at that latency (wired connection)

Edit: I use ExpressVPN

I would like to know a bit more of your VPN experience. I´m struggling with double NAT problems with my isp and they cant fix it (for whatever reason).
I normaly get 30 ms on every fight, but im searching for 10/15 min, and its obviously the NAT problem. Do you think ExpressVPN could help skip this problem without ruinning my latency?

It's probably all based on what area you are in and what server you connected to with the VPN. It has the potential to give you more results if for instance you're in southern CA and for some reason won't match you with someone Washington or Oregon so you connect there. The VPN issue will probably be noticed if you're in New York and trying to match with people in Japan or even California.

When thinking about regions and latency, just remember that the speed of light is 0.067ms for every 10km so a 1,000km is 6.7ms and that's just light speed. It doesn't account for the actual servers and lines the packets are actually getting sent through.

I’m from London, loads of games servers are located directly in London. Including some street fighter servers. UK & Europe all share the same servers due to how close we all are

Looking for games takes few seconds in Europe. You get games back to back for hours. It’s pretty amazing. :)

Proton's VPN has an NAT option where you can change it to moderate with a toggle switch. The actual toggle is even called 'Moderate NAT.' Been meaning to try a cheap fighting game like MK to try it on myself, so if you do let us know how it goes. Have my problems with their servers sometimes, but having that option is a game changer.

Sorry, that post was meant for you and not the OP.

Use expressvpn. It's the fastest vpn with best pings. I barely lose any ping.

I tried surfshark vpn after a few match i got error message from game. Did you get any error message while using vpn? I cant play ranked cuz of stupid region lock thing.

Sometimes there's an error but most of the time it's fine.
I think expressvpn has a free trial.
It's because your ISP has you on a mobile plan, which means you can't properly p2p because you don't your own IP address, by connecting to a VPN you go through a computer/internet that can actually p2p, which means you don't timeout. It *is* worse for latency, but it's functions for bypassing port-forward incapable ISPs.
