The decline of street fighter
The decline of the Street Fighter series is a topic that has generated a lot of discussion among fighting game fans. Some argue that the saga has lost quality and innovation over the years, while others argue that it continues to be a reference in the genre and that it has been able to adapt to changing times.

The saga has had ups and downs throughout its history, but some of the points most criticized by fans are:

- The lack of game modes and content at the 2016 release of Street Fighter V, forcing players to wait for updates and purchase season passes to access more characters and arenas.
- The change in the graphic and playable style in Street Fighter IV and V, which opted for a more realistic and three-dimensional look, moving away from the classic and colorful style of previous installments.
- The lack of innovation and variety in character design and combat mechanics, which have made the saga feel repetitive and unoriginal compared to other proposals in the genre.

I believe that a good part of the previous problems are still present in Street Fighter 6. Also, I see the following negative points:

- The World Tour mode is the main novelty of the game, but it is poorly executed. It is a single player mode that offers us to travel the world facing different rivals and challenges, but it has several problems: it is too easy, repetitive and boring; the combats do not make sense or coherence with the story; the scenarios are generic and little varied; and the progression and customization system is confusing and limited.
- The game has some technical glitches and design errors that affect the experience. For example: some characters are unbalanced and have an advantage over others; there are performance issues and frame drops on some platforms; online mode has lag and frequent disconnections; loading times are excessive; and the menus are not very intuitive and aesthetic.
- The game does not bring anything new or original to the fighting game genre, but merely recycles ideas and elements from previous installments. For example: the graphic style is very similar to Street Fighter V, but with more filters and effects; the combat system does not introduce any new or interesting mechanics, but is based on the same concepts as always (weak, medium and strong blows, energy bars and super attacks); and the roster of characters is not very varied and innovative, with many cloned or recycled fighters.

I think that the Street Fighter saga moves further away from its glory days every year, focusing in a direction that points to the new generations and that, in short, has gradually lost the essence of what made it so successful.

I don't know that people would call SF4 or SF5's art direction "more realistic" nor would I think many people claim that SF4 and SF5 are lacking in color. If anything both games can be a little too vibrant at times with the colors being over-saturated and blown out.

You could make the same arguments about how much Mortal Kombat has changed, focus on additional modes, mini games, elaborate cutscene heavy story mode, guest characters, more serious and less goofy than the early games, etc, and yet it's only become more successful over time.

If anything SF6 seems to be more influenced by not only more modern fighters like Tekken and Mortal Kombat but the direction that the market is going and playing into things that more people want to see or are demanding like a heavier focus on single player content for instance.

If Street Fighter stuck to something more traditional it's unlikely it could achieve the attention and success that SF6 is seeing right now. It needed to evolve in order to survive or make any kind of impact in the modern market.

A long post full of hearsay and you forgot to mention that competitive fighters that focus on VS content have to compete with genres that aren't as demanding of the player, like team based FPS games and Mobas.

Street Fighter 2 lived in the arcade and didn't have to compete with genres Street Fighter 6 does. Players having more gane options means they're not all going to funnel into the only option.
