Do you think SF can finally somehow compete with Tekken, MK and others?
I wait the most for Tekken 8 and my main fighting game right now is Tekken 7.
MK11 and FighterZ being my side fighting games. MK1 will probably become my main fighting game before Tekken 8 gets released.

Do you think SF finally became less of a joke of a fighting game franchise? And should SF6 become another side fighting game for me?

SF5 was atrocious. I have 98 hours in that game. So I am not sure.

The open beta was like alright. 6/10. Had 12 hours in it.

I can't speak for Tekken as I've basically never played the series.

But I've never found Netherrealm's fighting games all that great. Yeah, I had fun with Injustice 2's story mode, but I rapidly stopped being interested in playing the game afterwards.

The actual systems are just not fun to play around with for me.

Street Fighter was similar for me... Until now.

The Drive System is so flexible and lends itself so well to quick and snappy mindgames, and doesn't need you to do one-frame links, or ducking under every single projectile as you try to approach, etc etc.

Like... The beta convinced me that this is the second fighting game after Killer Instinct that I actually am interested in getting good at.

If you didn't like SF5, you'll stand a much better chance of liking this one. They've listened to the feedback and made a VERY different game.

I don't think SF is a direct competitor to those games. It is a "2D" fighter and has different conventions than 3D fighters like Tekken or Mortal Kombat. Capcom said their goal for SF6 was 10 million sales, which is around how many Tekken 7 has (MK11 has 15 million). So I don't think Capcom really sees them as competitors. They seem more focused on getting more casual players into the franchise.

Tournament wise SFV was already winning so SF6 will make it not even close https://twitter.com/MarkMan23/status/1630604568093671425 https://i.redd.it/mzt51jrd2hya1.png
Sales wise it's losing hard. Who cares about evo entrants.
And in your second pic sfv is behind T7.

I dig the drive system but overall it still feels like SF5. I hoped they would make SF4 as their basis.

mortal kombat isn't a 3d fighter

t8 looking terrible tbhs heat system looks horrible to me and i got 1200 hours in t7. more aggression, more forced 50/50s that take 1/3 - 1/2 of your hp.

street fighter got way less gimmicks, so if you just want to press gimmicky stuff your opponent dont know about this is the wrong game.

beta was fun. as a new player you immediatly are able to enjoy the mind game portion of fighting games which is what makes them fun without having to learn and react and punish, duck, sidestep and parry a bunch of weird strings and weird launchers like tekken.

Less of a joke of a fighting game franchise? Outside of SF5 not being received well when has that been the case for the franchise?

Not many people played SF1 but SF2 was a pretty revolutionary game. The Alpha games were well received from what I remember. SF3 didn't do well upon release but now Third Strike is considered to be one of the greatest fighting games among the FGC. SF4 was received very well. SF5, especially at launch was not a bright spot for the series.

SF has always been a mainstay of Evo and various other fighting game tournaments.

I don't feel there's ever been an overall perception that SF is a joke of a fighting game franchise.

As for competing with Tekken & MK. It's hard for anything to reach the heights of Neatherrealm's games do in terms of sales. SF6 will probably do well but will still probably sell a few million less units than MK1.

As for Tekken 8 if the existing pattern of the next Tekken game selling less than the previous one continues then we could see a situation where the current SF game outsells the current Tekken game but there's nothing saying this existing pattern will continue, although I don't think Tekken 8 will sell more than T7.

Game - Sales

Tekken 3 - 8 Million
Tekken 4 - 2 Million
Tekken 5 - 8.2 Million
Tekken 6 - 3.5 Million
Tekken 7 - 10 Million

I think part of it has to do with the fact that so many people buy the previous game and that many of those people skip the next Tekken game but by the time the Tekken game after that comes out it's been so long since that person has played a new Tekken game that they're eager to play a new Tekken game again.
You are CLEARLY too young for this discussion.
Street Fighter 2 was the one fighting game that litterally spawned all the current relevant fighting game IPs, litterally.
Street Fighter was and still is the most recognized fighting game franchise in the entire world. Yeah SFV had it rough, but its ONE game in its entire history.

That and the Tekken lore man. What the actual heck is that lmao

I would try Tekken but their community is awful. Swarming other games forums and telling everyone how much better Tekken is, You seem nice, though,
Nezgot Jun 1, 2023 @ 1:20pm
SF5 was a big step down from SF4 in terms of quality and still the 2nd most active fighting game for most of its lifespan. Imagine the popularity of a Street Fighter that doesn't suck.

I recommend watching this video for related commentary:

MK only casuals play for 2 weeks and move on, Tekken 8 is only next year and it's a 3d fighter. I plan on playing SF6 alongside Tekken 8 when it releases.

In what way does it feel like SF5 and in what way does it not feel like SF4?

Just the way game controls? The artstyle? Something else?
