Classic. Modern feels too restrictive to me and it’s simply not as much fun to play.

I would say it depends on how serious you are about the game. If you are serious about SF6 and intend to raise your skills to competitive levels, I think sticking to classic from the beginning and practicing a lot is the way.
If you just want to play casually, I would recommend starting with modern controls and later you can decide if you want to move to classic or stay with modern.

I'd go with classic, modern maybe if playing mobile. Usually gamepad players in other genres want more buttons than less buttons

Classic will give you your full moveset and doesn't come with a penalty to your damage like Modern does, so in a vacuum it is better. Modern can do some things that Classic can't, they're just edge case things.

Ultimately though, it just comes down to what you're going to be willing to put in work with. Fighting games are a constant grind of learning and practice. If Modern controls are what let you put that work in, then don't feel bad about using them.

I'd really recommend starting with Classic though, and seeing if they make sense to you. Classic is going to have a higher ceiling and give you the true experience, and it will be much harder to switch later if you get used to Modern first and then have to unlearn those mechanics.

You know there is only one way to find out right?

Modern is scary if you have good reaction speed

Modern for sure. Think, in classic mode the player will need to execute a command and it takes time in your mind to execute such a command, even if it is automatic and imperceptible to you. As for the Modern player, he will only need to press a single button, do you understand the time he has on you? This means that he will be able to react more quickly to you because he needs less time to react. In addition, there is still the fact that characters who have "fast inputs" of projectiles no longer have the penalty of "Charging blows" being able to be more effective over characters that have a longer input but with more practical commands like a Hadou Ken for example. These two skills are just practical examples, but there are many others in this category.
And all the player will need to do to get such benefits is to give up some attacks that he won't even miss, and a damage penalty that is practically insignificant compared to the benefits obtained.

It depends:

- If you are so used to Z inputs, double quarter cicles, combos, etc. So you needn't to practice them, and enjoy with such stuff, then go with Classic.

- If you are not already good with complex inputs, unless you think it will be fun to practice them, then go with Modern. It is not so restrictive as it looks because it still allows you to use most of the 'lost' attacks using the 'classic inputs'. For exemple, with Ryu I use his power up 22P with Modern, and even I use the QCB to hadouken if I am nor pressed nor comboing.

Ah! When I face Classic opponents, I sometimes win sometimes lose. In any case I've felt that it was because controls. Maybe I'll change my mind in the future, but I cannot imagine myself changing into Classic.

I don't see the threat right now from modern controls. If the modern input system becomes an issue negative edge and other option selects will confuse the modern control player

Modern is great if you're new to fighting games or have only played games that don't use motion inputs (e.g. if you're a Smash player who wants to get in to SF6, you'll feel more comfortable with Modern). Modern uses directional inputs for special moves, which are quite easy, and also has an "auto combo" button that, if held down, will perform a good combo depending on which of the three non-special attack buttons you tap. However, because of the sheer number of special moves some characters have, some specials may not be available in Modern mode.
Specials that are executed with Modern's directional inputs do 20% less damage, and Supers that are activated with the quick Heavy+Special button press will also have about the same reduced damage. But in Modern, you can still use the motion inputs to use many of the same specials and supers, but with full damage -- so you can ease yourself into playing the game without being held-back damage-wise.
Modern controls also simplify the number of buttons you need to press, which does remove half the normal attacks -- for instance, a character would only be able to use their light/medium/heavy punches, instead of both punches and kicks. So you do have less unique options.

Classic controls require you to use motion inputs to perform specials/supers, but there is no damage reduction, and you are granted access to all of your specials and normals.

If you think it'd be fun to use Classic controls and learn classic Street Fighter, definitely learn how to use Classic. But Modern is quite a bit easier to get a hold of, and is not a terrible option for players.
after trying both of them with luke . There is no way that classic can handle modern. Input with classic takes at least a few milsec slower than just pressing 1 thing and then excute it.
I also watched videos now on youtube seems modern is optimal way to play this game . classic you just hinder yourself .
Unless there are 2 ranks modes one for classic and one for modern. I think modern has better chances to win if both player are equal skilll. i mean with classic a simple combo took me like 4-5 inputs while modern with 2 -3 click i was there . it just felt more smooth to me . i guess i stick to modern for now.
my main issue with classic is the side movemnt . some combo tell you -> -> \> ( this last movment can mess me up since controller sometimes think i didnt press it. with modern this doesnt happen

It depends on the Character. Which is why it has no place in Ranked/Competitive. You could press bad buttons as a Classic User. The Modern Controls are trimmed. That's considered a drawback but in reality that could have the unintentional effect optimizing a Character in a way that prevents them from pressing bad buttons.

They are meant to both be competitive, which is best only time will tell. May be that one character is better with classic and another with modern.

i try now to pull the same combo with a classic and it was literally impossible to pull it off. i feel like some comb are meant just for modern. like the ryuk kick into spin kick while in air. as classic i dont know how can u pull this off .

that what i think based on my short play. some combo prob easier with classic while some impossible with classic and only possible with modern. i dont know how they balance this. i think if both player equal skill the modern will win most of the time its just more efficient not easier since u need to know what to do but still its smoother
