I have to remind you it was the 0.200 version of the game, expect a lot of balancing for the 1.00.
As a first time player crackers ruined the open beta for me

There were a series of tournaments over the weekend streamed on twitch and the sheer amount of evidence of blatant crack users was overwhelming

Capcom won’t do nothing though

The first beta was cracked so people have had access to thew build since around October. For some people this is big deal, for others less so - but Capcom have stated that there's going to be balance updates for the main release so a lot of those finely crafted optimal combos may stop working.

The closed beta that was released last year was cracked to be playable offline

So basically anyone with the crack has had unlimited access to the beta offline since last year. So that’s like 8+ months of being able to practice in training mode etc or play your friends locally offline

As you can imagine having unlimited access to the game since last year is a huge advantage over people who we’re playing for the first time this weekend

Literally every professional player has been abusing this crack, the game isn’t even out yet and the integrity of competitive play is already badly damaged

It'll be fine, don't worry. It's like how when SFV came out and we had a couple of Tournaments won by complete unknowns who then vanished after month as everyone caught up - same will happen here and we'll have all the faces you'd expect at the top of the tournament listings. In the grand scheme of things, the extra time a tiny fraction of people have had with the open beta means very little, less if Capcom's balance changes mix stuff up a lot.

The way I like to look at it is that mortals like you and I are unlikely to be on the bleeding edge of tech and combo manufacture, so what was learned in the last 8 months is a fantastic platform to improve our own gameplay.

Sure I agree, people will catch up, plus obviously the finished game has more characters. It’s just for me the crackers spoilt the open beta experience.

When it’s your first time playing and you run into people who’ve been grinding Kimberly all year long it’s not much fun. People generally expect to go into a brand new game on an equal playing field day 1 and that wasn’t the case here

It's never ever going to be an equal playing field for new people. Sure, you got duffed over by a couple of Kimberlys as they rocketed out of the lower ranks (I got hit by a couple too), but on the other hand you - with your years of fighting game experience - will absolutely demolish anyone who's coming into the game fresh because of your grasp of the fundamentals.

And Capcom's aim is lots of new people this time, what with the SP mode and Modern Controls.

So, while you got a bit dunked on, you'll have dunked on others who were helpless before your mighty fists too. It's just the way of the world and the genre. The level playing field is a myth, and the fact that win streaks exist means that the people who really know their stuff will soon be up and out of Gold. If you're competing at a Platinum+ level (which is where the real grind starts), then the gap between you and them will be far smaller than you think.
