You do get the point of defaults is to encourage modification.. not to make clones of defaults just because someone might be lazy at sculpting. They are supposed to be "a lil off".
x__x looks like a doll. nah sorry I need some higher quality xD
The issue is the lighting makes it very unpredictable.
We really need either lighting options in creation to lab the character looks, or some kind of options..
*again Capcom.. rip what ever you can out of Skyrim modding 101 for fixing these things.
But ya making something, vs the results in-game are horrendously different.
The sad thing is too that I think they used it to create NPC's, and the background NPC's as a result just look weird.
The actual characters in the roster look great in terms of face and body modeling, but the characters from the creator tool are just wonky as hell.
if you played SC6, you would know it's character creation is steps below this game. games that have cac makers tend to make npcs from it alot

A lot of people creating the avatar in the world of Street fighter and having them face to face with Capcom's characters, you feel very.. well you feel ugly, small, and weird? The problem is not following Capcom's philosophy through their own character creation. I actually think Bosch IS a character made from the same way as your avatar, but I could be wrong.

A lot of their designs through out all their characters and games are exaggerated bodies, but in their terms it would be considered the "Street Fighter body". What is this body? Well mainly just big hands and big feet for all characters to share. You can even make your strange character fit into the world of Street Fighter following certain rules when creating.

Continuously match concept art and mimic a body of a character you enjoy to feel in place. I chose to outline my character's body as Ryu, since that is capcom's main guy that they probably use to test everything, even in art. This entire concept to make your character look right will also have your character feel at home when fighting as well. Most artist's when they want an idea, look at other peoples work or other things, but it is very common practice to use things that already exist. Capcom's concept art is no secret and to make the character you want, you should try and copy as much as you can and continue to play with the settings.
One if the big things to follow and copy is obviously the current cast in Street Fighter 6, I used Bosch as my ideal character to help my avatar's face look right. This required a lot of time studying a bit of the cast and mainly Boasch's face. A young avatar to match Bosch's age and be the ideal rival against him.

By following certain rules of a Capcom character, you can pretty much make anyone.
probably but the issue is the lighting .. Pick a super white character and its like they are glowing ..
it starts with the eyebrows looking unnatural to the hairstyles looking like a wig. and so on... female chars look just shabby. no offense but you can probably create some decent drag queens but thats not what Im interpreting myself in a fighting game.
no offence but offense..
But least you found the reason have trouble creating a character ..
Its not the options or limited features or shading..

^If a character creator doesn't allow you to create dames of this quality, or it's unnecessarily difficult to do so, then the system is incredibly flawed.

Or its a fighting game not a dressup game.
It was never a character creation remake tool like SCVI offers, and seeing as this is a trial for SF it would be best to support it otherwise they won't waste time and resources like this for this ever, and will just sell the layout to some one like Tencent and stick with fighting and not creating a fighter within a fighting game.
The only flaw is the lighting options being misleading when creating so things like shading makeup are going to make things very off putting. As for difficulty yes that's called precision editing.
A user issue not a game engine issue, they could limit which options are advanced vs beginner to make things far far simpler like selecting a control scheme as levels as well, but the only flaws are inaccurate lighting and breast bone sizing.
The face and mapping is fine for the intended product.
The characters are not going to look the same as say Chun Li or Ryu with out mods that can use same face templates and match those coordinates.
As long as the lighting in the editor is all bloomed out, you cant really get a good setup for face makeup and lighting toning which can be used to shape the face better like the eyes.
The chest will allow various character sizes which is fine for males, but voided for females.
Outside of that the editor has plenty of tools and the rendering is fine for the product offered.
SF6 is not going to let you make characters that outshine the final product and its roster.
MK Armageddon did the same thing as did SCVI, Capcom still intends to sell their franchise and expand the roster via DLC.
