I feel like we hang out in very different circles then because the reaction amongst my fighting game friends when Alex got announced for SFV was basically "Who even felt like ~HE~ had to come back?", so I was under the impression that not even nearly 20 years made people miss him (not counting his appearance in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom as not NEARLY enough people played that)

I mean, good for Alex that he has any fans, just surprised to hear it.

I mean not even the dudes look that good, that game has a really pronounced uncanny valley effect from the attempted photo realism.

Tekken, KOF, and Guilty Gear are still hyper stylized, and to be honest I prefer that approach in fighting games. If I wanted photo realistic I'd go play a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ UFC game or something.

I remember back when he came to SFV, a lot of people were hyped to see him return. Considering he was the first DLC character before big names like Guile and Juri, Capcom did have a lot of faith in his popularity

I don't care for this character at all. He was the last one they dumped into SF5 and from my point of view, he looked incredibly generic. It seems like they incorporated him in 5 in an attempt to make his starring role in 6 more legitimate.

I do agree with the belief that his design in 6 is better than 5, but his being brought to the front of the franchise feels very forced nonetheless. His rivalry with Jamie is nowhere near the quality of the Ryu/Ken story dynamic, and his stupid "hadouken" taunt just feels like the developers are crapping on the legacy foundation they're building upon for a cheap, modern variant.

I was hoping that Luke taking over as the main character would mean that Capcom could actually take some risks and make big changes to Ryu, but instead we have the same old Ryu and then Luke is Ryu: Good Version.

Like ideally Luke would be the well rounded fireball/uppercut guy, and then Ryu would be closer to how he was in 3rd Strike.
