Online...you'll meet people like you and a lot of people who will humiliate you. Ranking mode almost always put you against the same league, so the word ranking should not scare you.
i think it's a reference of friendliness
What experience did you have? The FGC is probably the best gaming community.
Also, this game is very beginner friendly. There's modern controls, world tour for a lengthy story mode, and ranked does a good job at putting you against opponents that are on your level.
Modern controls, laziness with wifi, all play a role.
yep this
the fgc is toxic as evidenced by your jerky comment
Oh come on, that's not fair. Compared to Dota 2 any community is all sunshine and roses. With the possible exception of the League of Legends community.
But to answer the OP's question, it's very, very new player friendly. It's got tutorials and training options all over the place, plenty of single-player content where you can just familiarize yourself with things at your own pace, and if you ever want to jump online there's plenty of Steam groups and Discords with other new players looking to improve and play with you.
I tutor so hit me up if you're interested
The World Tour is really fun if you're into stuff like that, it feels like an action-RPG with fighter mechanics and there's a good 40h+ worth of content there. More if you count the remaining bits of grinding extra levels and mastering all the iconic character styles. And the customization options and costumes are really seriously good.
But be prepared for a very brutal entry into the vs. mode. Even ranked to the very bottom of the list, most of your opponents will be absolutely destroying you with combos that defy reason. Getting 10+ matches in a row where you might as well just leave your controller on the table and go watch YT because you're not going to get a single action in no matter how hard you try, is sadly a reality.
People on these and other forums keep repeating that the average fighting game enthusiast spends years training. Which basically means that no matter what they do with the controls, this genre will never be accessible to newbies. Not unless they fundamentally change the game to give handicap bonuses, or fix their ranked so that newbies are actually matched with other newbies instead of career fighting gamers.
