Why do people always run away from my ryu?
I like being in peoples face and doing combos but people love running away.

Your username is "Spooky", they're afraid of you, hence the running.

in SF6, Ryu is too old to chase someone now.

It's a very standard tactic for people who don't understand the matchup, don't know how to play neutral, and are hoping you'll jump at them to close the distance.

It's extremely self-defeating because if you handle it correctly they're going to run out of space and they'll have to do something in the corner, while you can basically move freely.

Just walk them into the corner (don't dash). At that point they'll have no choice but to do something and you can respond. Plus they're in the corner which us a really bad place to be in this game.

Cuz c.mk. You always need to reposition yourself because of the hitbox of ryus c.mk. or did you mean literally running away all the time?

I see this complaint a lot and i have experienced this playstyle as well. The thing is, if you are complaining about it, it suggests that you struggle with dealing with it. Which means there are holes in your game. No offense, this is just the way it goes, there are holes in all of our games you just luckily have identified one of yours, which means you can address it.
Playing super defensive, 'running' away etc. Means they are waiting for you to make a mistake at the cost of giving up any aggression and often giving up screen space and cornering themselves. As others have said, this is the crux of the issue. You should really have no problems with players backing themselves into a corner, that is an advantageous position for you. So just learn to play the corner better, be patient, realize that they are waiting for you to do something obvious like a DI or they are trying to jump over you. Back up a few steps and harass them, you have the advantage when they are against the wall, they can't back up but you can. Once you get confident caging someone in the corner, positioning better to stop them jumping out etc. You will start to be happy to see these people because it will be an easy win, and you can be in their face all you want once they are backed against the wall. Just watchout for the DI or the jump out.

This is the answer, defense is easy, effective pressure is hard. There are always going to be some players that prefer a more defensive play style, but higher skilled defensive players know the importance of mixing it up and and will pressure you to keep you off balance.

Players who are playing defensively because they just don't know any better will just put themselves in the corner for you. The corner is generally the last place you want to be in a fighting game.

I've even seen Giefs pulling this ♥♥♥♥, if you really want to troll players like this or at least get more info out of them get a life lead and start laming them out. Best case scenario they don't adapt and you get a relatively comfy timer scam win, typical scenario they will panic and start doing stupid ♥♥♥♥, the "hunter" becomes the prey.

BTW good on you for playing a more offensively minded Ryu. I know how to handle turtle Ryus, but when Ryu is rushing my ass down like Ken i forget how to play the game it's really unsettling. My brain is screaming "This isn't right, he isn't just standing there throwing fireballs, abort, abort!"

No, if they're doing this to you, you're not understanding how to open them up, they're just waiting for your mistakes and punish them accordingly, this tactic is usually useful on low level players cause you can't really play neutral with them cause of the randomness of their tactics so you just have to wait them out.

I was dealing with people who just walked backwards a lot the other day and it was pretty frustrating and I just kept walking into moves and jumping into themover and over out of frustration because I knew they wouldn'tmive forward.

But I had to get into the mindset of playing on some serious Street Fighter style and keep walking them down and hanging out just outside their range. I like to be aggressive, too. But I don't have the skills to rush down someone and stay on em. So I just had to calm down and slowly walk my way into their range and micro walk back and forth to wait for some kind of opening. I was enjoying the matches a lot more when I did that. And like others said, they'll corner themselves. And I'd try to space myself where they couldn't jump over me to get out.

You literally just told me I'm not understanding how to open them up after rephrasing how I explained how to pressure them into opening up.

By 'wait them out', MotokoSan might mean literally standing still and doing nothing, rather than walking forward?

If so, I'm with Gramps, getting them in the corner is the GOOD STUFF.

Hello,
I have the same with my ryu, every time my opponent back forward (casual, battlehub, ranked). It's horrible to play, not fun and after the fight I learned nothing. Special mention for the matchup against guile, it's a nightmare.
