I'm gonna try Chun-Li
I'm a newbie, or I guess some of you would say "scrub". Should I use Classic or Modern with Chun-Li?

Try both out and see which one feels better to you.

Yep try em both out.

She's great in this game - works well with fundamental concepts and can get pretty advanced when you're ready for it.

Nah you aren't a scrub. Scrubs are the people who complain about how other play the game, because they can't adapt to it.

If you are completely new and not familiar with motion controls you could try modern. But you still need to learn the motion controls with modern controls eventually to be more effective so you should still focus on practicing those even if you decide to go with modern.

Classic will take more time to learn. At a newbie level it really doesn't matter which control scheme you use and you can get good with either control scheme. If classic feels fun and you want to go through the effort to learning it do it, but if that's not your thing nothing's forcing you and you'll eventually learn to use motion controls with modern controls anyway.

Almost everyone says she's best in classic because she loses so many tools in modern, but people who top 6 EVO out of 7000 competitors use modern. I imagine the truth is a bell curve. Modern is best from absolute (so this is what a gamepad looks like, I just press the buttons and things happen) beginner to some point where the benefits of classic, the increased damage and extra tools, are better for you than the autocombos and one button moves. Then you ride classic until you're the finest Chun in the known universe, at which point, you unlock further benefits of modern that outweigh the benefits of classic at the highest levels of play.

Scrub and newbie is not the same.
As others said try both and use what works better for you.

Thank you all very much for your time. I'm off to training mode with my cheap knockoff hitbox in tow.

Scrub =/= Newbie

A newbie is someone who just picked up the game and holds no illusion that they are actually good at it and is willing to learn.

A scrub is someone who regardless of experience level and understanding of a game will never learn, as the only thing they know how to do is make excuses. They attempt to enforce their completely warped sense of "fair play" on the rest of the community.

They will always find something to ♥♥♥♥♥ about whether it be throws, blocking, parrying, Ken, fireballs, wakeup supers, Drive Impact, Modern control users... effectively they expect their opponents to not press any buttons, or do anything other than stand perfectly still so they can drop easy combos uncontested and complain about the input reader.

As far as Chun Li goes, there are those who say she's not a beginner character. There is some truth to that, you will struggle as she has few gimmicks, and relies on sound fundamentals.

That being said, do not let that dissuade you, if you think she looks cool, or you like her moves than try her out. I play her on Classic, but if you are new I would recommend starting with Modern and getting a feel for her. I'd recommend trying Classic once you are more familiar as it gives you more options.

It's worth noting that Modern Chun Li is viable at all levels of play so you don't have to play Classic Chun if it doesn't work out, or you don't like it.

Other than that hit me up if you have specific questions, or would like some resources to get you started.

OK, so the word "scrub" applies to people like DSP. Got it.

Now, if you have beginner resources, I'm all ears. If you post them here, I'm sure others would appreciate too.

If you wish to avoid wrist pain, especially if you are using controller, I would suggest Modern. Classic wrecked my hands to the point I had to stop playing the game. I'm Chun player, btw.

Thanks for your concern. However, I have just received a cheap knockoff hitbox yesterday that I'm slowly getting used to.

Then, have fun with Classic. Classic Chun is blast, and very enjoyable (pre pain).

DSP and LTG are both pretty much archetypical scrubs.

I have very little experience with Modern Chun Li, but here are the resources I used to learn her on Classic:

SuperCombo Wiki https://wiki.supercombo.gg/w/Street_Fighter_6/Chun-Li

Contains lots of frame data, combo lists, strategy and matchups and lots of other stuff. This is basically the Chun Li bible.

So you want to learn Chun Li... https://youtu.be/7KdkKzRlo5I

Nephew's So you want to learn series is great as he walks you through a lot of the core concepts related to the characters and helps prime you for what you can expect and some basic strategy.

Sakonoko Match Videos/Replays https://youtu.be/d0_XQsJ_c4A

Sakonoko's Chun Li is out of this world, and I watch his replays semi-frequently, probably the best Classic Chun Li player IMO. Does a great job of demonstrating the characters ceiling at a high level.

Modern Chun Li https://youtu.be/IZYZEOefFFA

Spends a lot of time focusing on Haitani's Modern Chun Li. Haitani is basically the modern equivalent of Sako he put Modern Chun Li on the map, before he started showing everyone what she was capable of everyone thought Modern Chun Li was a meme.

Welcome to the game. Chun Li is a great character, regardless of control scheme. Just go with what you enjoy the most. The key to getting into things is to make sure you have fun right away, rather than hoping for some magical moment in the future where you suddenly got good enough for the game to change in front of your eyes.

And don't worry, you are not a scrub. It isn't interchangeable with "newbie" or "bad". A scrub is a person who makes up excuses for losing. Rather than try to find ways to improve and deal with the cheap and frustrating stuff people throw at them, they will scream and cry and yell about how one thing or another is broken and overpowered and how there's no way to beat it.

As long as you don't behave like a pathetic screaming child, unable to take any kind responsibility for your own learning, anyone calling you a scrub simply doesn't know what the word means.

Just don't turtle, OP. We really don't need more of that.
