Ryu's damage scaling
Is it awful, or it's just me?

Examples:

Almost anything that follows his cr. mk.

bk. hk. one hit from distance hits the same as jab. Feels weak in comparison for what it looks like.

DR > bk. hk > cr. mk > ex half circle fwd kk > lv3 = 4080 damage. (lv3 alone does 4000).

Parry > lv3 (watch replay MYFNJUT83, second round).

Experiences? Opinions?

All characters have the same challenge with combo scaling.
First hit does 100%. Next one does 90%, then 80% and so on.
lvl3 super can't get below 50% so it's works well at the end of long combos.

So if you do lp > lp >lvl3 super the combo will be weaker than lvl3 super alone for any character in the game.

Combos after Perfect parry start from 50%
Combos after DI start from 70%.
Zangief lvl3 does 4800. If he does DI + lvl3 it does less damage - 4320.

All cancelable cr. MKs have extra scaling. It's not a Ryu-exclusive issue

That combo also isn't optimal. St. HK or st. HP are much better combo starters for Ryu. Lead to more routes than b. HK
ex donkey kick also has additional scaling

I struggle with this as well. I'm a mediocre high gold player with Ryu who will probably get pushed to plat by a win streak or two.

My go to punish is st. HP EX donkey kick and DP but it's not great. I feel like I need to put out some more damage when I get the chance.

Anyone have any good combos, punish or otherwise?

For a much better combo for only slightly more meter, you can do st. HP > DRC > st. HK > st. HP > DP.

A great meterless punish you can do after something like counter DI is st. HK > cr. MK > special

Sure, but what about balance with characters that throw flurries, and hit with long combos? They do the same damage, but have greater chance to hit, and so they hit much more. To start a good Ryu's combo, a whiff and a hk is needed. Standard is hard, hk became too hard to land, since it doesn't hit characters ducking. He needs something more. More damage from cr. mk. follow ups, at least one more option from fw. hk., bk. hk. damage increase, mid hashogeki could stop and attract characters for an upper and shoryu. Old man needs some tweaks to escape some sweat matches.

Ryu has above average damage, he does not need better scaling from cr. MK. Out of all the things you could complain about Ryu damage is not one, get better at the game please

considering he has the 4th highest damage combo in the game at 7220 - 13 hit i think his damage scaling is fine.

Sure, I'll get better. Thanks, you're very polite. Tell this to everyone else not playing him, because he's not enough to compete with quite some part of the cast.

I think his damage is good too for what it's worth. I just needed some other moves to try. I think a lot of Ryus at mid levels are stuck with this. In mirror matches I don't see them throw out much either.

6967-7150 seems to be his max now.

Thanks, good stuff! Combo starts with a heavy half circle kick, needs electric hashogeki, and in a corner. Kind of hard to land, but still very cool.
