in Decapre USF4 opening you see Cammy as a kid with an american accent and shes supposedly an M.Bison clone(SF:Alpha3), vega rescues her (for reasons) and he drops her off at a British para-military org. Delta Red.
and due to amnesia i guess she took on Britishness :P
i guess her nationality would be wherever Bison was when he made her lol
You'd be surprise, Daigo actually kind of petitioned indirectly that Ryu be made better, because he wanted to use Ryu more often because his own sense of national pride. This was kind of why Ryu got the rework he did in SF5, though I'd argue Ryu in SF6 is even better than that.
In SF2 and every game he appeared in Japanese fans of the series have had serious issues with E.Honda because culturally him wearing Kabuki make-up while being a Sumo and fighting as a Sumo was seen as offensive, to the point that actual real life Sumo wrestlers don't acknowledge him as a sumo representative, they see it as disrespectful, mind you the game is made by mostly Japanese people so its kind of eye opening.
But this topic is mostly out of curiosity, not national pride, I often try to find ways of getting people to talk about their views on their countries of origin as more of a learning experience than anything else.
Fei long despite being clearly based on Bruce Lee does not garner much respect from mainland China Chinese, yet Chun-Li and all the attention shes ever been given has bolstered a lot of praise and positive feedback from Chinese players of the game, even more so now that her appearance is more directly noticeable as Chinese. With many presumably Chinese fans arguing (for no reason in my opinion) that many people wouldn't like her appearance because she looked more like the nation she originated from (largely untrue from what I've seen).
I find these kinds of glimpse into players/peoples minds when it comes to games interesting.
Interesting! Sounds like a waste of space in one's mind, to be bothered over how a character appears in a video game.
You mean the Chun-li appearance part? I agree, but i think the over all sentiment of do characters who indirectly represent various nations invoke any kind of nationalism in fans is still a valid topic for conversation. In real life its definitely a true thing, if a Irish fighter becomes famous in a sport, there is definitely a sense of national pride for them. In America that sense of national pride only seems to sprout up when it comes to international events like the Olympics. I can't recall seeing it much say during the World Cup.
Good points, even in SF6 if you give her the I believe they were jellied eels, she kind of eats it but finds it unpleasant, which from what little British celebs I have seen will tell that is a very staple British dish.
